Grace Olivia EyreMarch 22, 2006 ~ July 14, 2017 (age 11)
Grace Olivia Eyre was born on March 22, 2006, in Orem Utah. She died on July 14, 2017, from injuries sustained in an accident.
Grace had a beautiful smile and loving spirit. She was the Pied Piper of neighborhood children and loved to be around lots and lots of people.
Grace was an athlete. She started with running, skipping right over plain, old walking in order to run. Once, when told she must slow down, she replied “I don’t know how to go slow.” She showed off her speed on the soccer field, which she played for eight years; on the track, where her favorite race was the 400M; to the basketball court, where what she lacked in height, she made up for in steals and fast breaks. She once said, “I can steal the ball before they even notice me.”
For the last three years, her true love was WaspFit, her beloved CrossFit program, which she attended faithfully. She was very proud of her deltoid muscles and worked hard to build a six pack. She loved Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, and would play Around the World in the driveway until she didn’t miss.
And though she was a fierce competitor, Grace was a fun-loving, goofy, tender-hearted, intuitive soul, who immediately knew when someone was hurting or needed a friend. She once wrote that the thing she disliked the most was “rude people.”
She had a gift for learning a song after hearing it just a few times, from ‘70s rock to modern pop. It’s hard to pick a favorite artist, but she loved One Direction, Brandi Carlile, whom she saw in concert last summer, and the cast recordings of “Hamilton” and “Newsies.” She loved watching lip synch battles from “The Tonight Show” on YouTube, reruns of “The Golden Girls,” and “The Office,” and a smattering of Disney Channel live action shows and Cartoon Network originals. She had a weekly date with her dad and brother to watch “Beat Bobby Flay,” “Next Food Network Star” and “Modern Family.”
She is survived by her parents, Jon and Jessica, brother Caleb and sister Lucy; grandparents Don and Marcia Eyre and Mike and Leslie Warren; many cousins, aunts, uncles, great-grandparents and extended family. She is preceded in death by cousin Aiden McEwan and great-grandmothers Winagene Eyre and Joyce Clark.
Her parents would like to thank their family, friends and the community for the outpouring of love, support, tributes, and other expressions of care in the aftermath of this horrific tragedy.
Eleven and a half years was not enough, Goose. You were much too fast for us.
