Evelyn June (Gordon) PierceJune 1, 1933 ~ October 1, 2017 (age 84)
Evelyn June Gordon Pierce graduated peacefully from mortality to the spirit world at her home surrounded by her children on October 1, 2017.
She was born June 1, 1933 in the small coal mining town of Superior, Wyoming to Foster LeRoy Gordon and Loe E Erickson Gordon. She grew up in Superior, Wyoming until the age of 12 when her family moved to Draper, Utah and became chicken farmers. One of her greatest joys was helping her father on the farm. She was the youngest of three daughters. Noting that she seldom sat still, her father called her wiggle-bug, the origin of her beloved nickname, Wig.
Evelyn married Thomas Winton Pierce on February 21, 1951 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with five children. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Evelyn served faithfully in the LDS Church including ward Relief Society, Young Women and Primary presidencies, Primary teacher and visiting teacher. She served for years in the scouting program, helping the boys, including her son, achieve their Eagle Scout awards. She had a strong testimony of, and love for, the Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was a trusted friend and supremely dedicated to her family. She loved them and enjoyed every opportunity she had to spend time with them. She was a very hard worker and taught her children to value hard work as well. She loved old movies, working in her yard, mowing the lawn, and being in the mountains. She delighted in preparing meals for family which often extended to sharing with friends and neighbors.
One of Evelyn’s great loves was Temple and Family History work. She has spent over 50 years finding ancestors and helping them receive temple blessings. She served a four-year mission at the LDS Church Family History Center in Riverton. She developed some special relationships with friends from the libraries.
Survived by her children, Debbie (Lane) Jensen, Heber City; Cathy Bult, Duchesne; Loe Pierce, Draper; Thomas Lynn (Julie) Pierce, Riverton; Vickie (Brent) Hatch, Salt Lake City; 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Ione Hammond, Lila (Gene) Greenwood; cousin, Norma Erickson; brother-in-law, Shelby (Tammy) Pierce.
