Welcome to the memorial page for

Jerry Lynn Swensen

June 23, 1961 ~ February 27, 2017 (age 55)

Our “HERO” husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and friend has left us after a long and valiant fight with diabetes. Jerry Lynn Swensen passed away February 27, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born June 23, 1961 to Reed Swensen and Carol Almira Gillen in Salt Lake City and grew up in Midvale, where he graduated from Hillcrest High School.

Jerry began working as a young man for his father’s construction company alongside his brothers. This was a profession that he would love throughout his life.

Jerry married his sweetheart, Teresa Kay Davis, on May 7, 1985 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They loved traveling together and spending time with family and friends, whose children they loved as their own. They were finally blessed with the “miracle” of one of their own in 2003 when their son Carson was born. He was the joy and sparkle in his Daddy’s eyes.

He enjoyed working with his hands and shared his love of woodworking and cars with his son. Jerry always thought of others before himself and never wanted to burden anyone with the struggles his body experienced while on this earth. Jerry had the ability to find the humor in any situation- good or bad. He could get anyone to laugh. His selfless service and the way he loved completely made him a HERO to all of us.

Jerry loved serving in the LDS church. Whether it was working with the scouts and camping every month, serving in the nursery, Sunday School and Elders Quorum presidencies, or as Executive Secretary in the ward bishopric, which was his current calling, he devoted his whole heart to each and every assignment. His service, despite the challenges he experienced, was a testimony to the faith he had in his Savior.

Jerry leaves behind his wife Teresa and son Carson, along with his sister Beverly (Jon) Sabey of Riverton, WY, brother Marlo (Nancy) of Oasis, UT, brother Randy (Janet) of South Jordan, UT, and sister Ranae (James) Ostler of Fruita, CO, and many nieces, nephews, and family that will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents Reed and Carol Swensen and niece Valerie Swensen.

A viewing will be held Thursday, March 2, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale. Funeral services will take place Friday, March 3 at 11:00 AM at the LDS church located at 6890 Whitmore Way (2225 East). A viewing will precede the services at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Crescent Cemetery, 11105 S. State St., Sandy.
