Joyce Lee Jenkins

Our loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2022, in West Jordan, Utah.

Joyce was born on February 23, 1932, in Garland, Utah, to Eva Amanda James Lee and Thomas William Lee, the last of seven children. When Joyce was five months old, her mother passed away. When she was five her father married Golda Acord, the only mother Joyce ever knew. Joyce lived in Garland, Utah, Lincoln, Idaho, Toppenish, Washington, and Midvale, Utah. She was a graduate of Jordan High School, Class of 1950.

Joyce met Leland Walter Jenkins in elementary school and re-connected in high school when she moved back to Midvale in 1949. They were married on April 12, 1951, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with five beautiful children and 16 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Joyce and Lee settled in West Jordan, where they built a home and raised their family. Joyce always looked forward to seeing her children and grandchildren. She loved all flowers, but poppies were her favorite. She and Lee took pride in their yard and spent many hours tending to it. Joyce was an avid reader all her life. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, playing the piano and listing to music--especially Willie Nelson. She and Lee loved to travel and were able to visit many wonderful places together, making many lifelong friends along the way. Joyce and Lee were married for 58 ½ years prior to his passing on December 17, 2009. Joyce was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions in the ward and serving two service missions with Lee. She also served as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple.

Joyce was the third full-time mail carrier in West Jordan, and continued to deliver mail there until her retirement in 1986.

She is survived by her children Terry (Mark) Losee, Jolene (Ken) Bell, Blake (Gwen) Jenkins, Janet (Scott) Murray, son-in-law Alex Helquist, as well as her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by husband Leland Jenkins, daughter Cindy Helquist, grandson Lynn Lee Morrill, her parents, and six siblings.

We express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunridge Assisted Living for the love, kindness, and care they provided to our mom.
