August 8, 1934 — April 14, 2022

Laureta Elma Whetman Dansie

Laureta was the only child of Harold “Buff” and Elma Whetman. She was born in Murray, Utah and lived in Murray for most of her life. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1952 and soon after married Merlin Brown Dansie; they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 25, 1953. They lived a long and happy life together and had three sons: Terry (Carlie), Jon (Michelle) and Kevin (Donna). Laureta loved her sons immensely, and she and Merlin raised them to be strong and caring men.

Laureta was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family with a passion that was unmeasurable. Her parents, husband, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, friends and neighbors meant the world to her. Her beautiful smile always radiated the love she held for them. She taught her sons to be adventurous and curious about how things work. She always encouraged them to be faithful and trust in The Lord and to be steadfast husbands, fathers and friends.

Laureta was supportive of Merlin and the boys as they built and ran their companies. She kept an immaculate home. She was a friend to everyone. She served many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but her favorite was being the Young Women’s President in the Murray 10th Ward. She loved “her girls” and was the perfect example of what a woman in the church should be and become. Laureta worked for the Church Distribution Center. She loved helping others there, especially with their Temple clothing.

Laureta loved to travel with her family. They traveled the world together and she and Merlin even took a cruise after they were empty nesters. Much of their free time was spent travelling to visit with family and friends living outside of Utah. She also loved everything RED, her ice-cold Coke, her Madame Alexander Dolls, Bone China and Beanie Baby collections. She loved purses, shoes, diamonds and beautiful clothing and above all things, she adored her “Merlin B.” Laureta’s face would light up when speaking about the time she spent with Merlin while he was serving in the Army in California and in Seattle, Washington. That was a favorite time in her life, and she happily shared stories with anyone who would listen!

The family would like to thank Harmony Home Healthcare and the other doctors, nurses, CNAs, and other staff who cared for Laureta in her final months. She was a resident of both Solstice Senior and Ashford Assisted Living Centers, where she received exceptional care.

Laureta is survived by her sons and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, with another on the way. She was preceded in death by her half-sister Barbara Whetman, her parents and husband.
