Sydnee Joyce Sanderson Halladay

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother returned home as she passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2022, in South Jordan, Utah.

Sydnee was born in Fairview, Utah on May 13, 1928, to Golden Sanderson and Selma Christensen. Her childhood was lovingly filled with extended family including playing daily with cousins and visiting her grandparents. She loved school, played the flute in the band, was editor of the yearbook, and was elected secretary of the senior class. Leaving Fairview for the University of Utah, she joined the Alpha Phi sorority and made friendships lasting more than 70 years. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and was a lifelong University of Utah fan. After initially teaching, Sydnee went back to school to earn a master’s degree in Library Science from Brigham Young University. She had a successful 25-year career as a teacher and media coordinator (librarian) in the Jordan School District.

Sydnee married Albert Dee Halladay on October 31, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised four children in Sandy. She treasured her membership in the LDS faith her entire life and served an 18-month family history senior mission with Albert in 1997 in Mississippi. They fell in love with Mississippi and returned several times to renew acquaintances with friends they made there. Sydnee also served a family history service mission at the church office building. She and Albert loved domestic road trips as well as trips abroad, travelling to Europe, the Panama Canal, and China. A highlight was a trip to Skaun, Norway where she saw her great-grandmother's ancestral home and met Norwegian relatives.

As an avid reader with a love of family history, Sydnee became a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a life-long learner and if you wanted to win at trivia, you wanted Sydnee on your team. She and Albert held their friendship with the “gang” dear to their hearts along with their other friends no matter where they lived.

Sydnee loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them as babies and then took pleasure in watching them grow and develop their personalities and interests in life. She believed in their potential. She will be missed.

Sydnee is survived by her husband, Albert and her four children: Shawn (Karen), Hope Olsen (Lynn), Gay Whetman, Hal (Gina), her sister-in-law Marelle Sanderson and many much loved extended family members. Her family was her highest priority in her life and she leaves a legacy of love for her 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Grant, Albert Earl, baby boy and sister Louise.
