Anthony Sam VanHorn

Anthony Sam VanHorn passed away unexpectedly on April 8th, 2024, surrounded by family while in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 64.

Anthony is survived by the mother of his children, sweetheart, two children, two grandchildren, two siblings, numerous nieces/nephews, and cousins: Sandra (Mother of Children), Norma (Sweetheart), Talon (Son), Lauren (Daughter), Arsen and Voden (Grandsons), Johnny (Brother), and Penelope (Sister). He is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Gordon and Katherine (Parents), George, Thomas, Steven, and Foster (Brothers), and Elaine (Sister).

Born the second youngest child to Katherine and Gordon VanHorn in Midvale, Utah. Anthony graduated from Hillcrest High School in Midvale. Sometime thereafter, he lived in St. George before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, where his daughter, Lauren, was born. Anthony relocated back to Utah to be closer to his family, finalizing his roots in Salt Lake County. He worked as a Journeyman Drywaller for many years when he welcomed his son, Talon, into this world. Anthony’s next step was expanding to his own construction company. Anthony’s final position, aside from contracting, was teaching the youth his trade at an alternative high school, where he impacted the lives of countless students.

Anthony was a passionate man whose love for music followed him from a young age until the day he departed. This man wrote and composed songs from soul-filled blues, guitar heavy southern rock, to brighter acoustic songs reminiscent of “Golden Age Rock.” Music was not his only love; family and the friends whom he adopted as family were equally critical to Anthony. The familial love was expressed as time spent together at a concert, at the lake on a boat, in front of a Jazz or 49’ers game, or even simply catching up over a beer.

Anyone who has come to know Mr. VanHorn knows that he is a one-of-a-kind man. Anthony always was on the lookout for the best interests of the people he surrounded himself with. Although he may be gone, Anthony will never be forgotten.
