Barbara Martina Cox Ray

Barbara Martina Cox Ray, born November 1, 1946 in Murray, Utah to Edwin and Martina Everts Cox. She passed away peacefully in her home on April 6, 2025.

Barbara married LeRoy (Sonny) Ray in 1961, and he preceded her in death in September of 2013, after 52 years of marriage.

Barbara attended several schools throughout the Salt Lake area, as well as Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah with studies in Psychology and Business.

She worked as a secretary for several companies including Hercules Aerospace and the Sandy City Police Department. Sonny and Barbara lived in Scipio, Utah for twelve years, where she was a member of the Daughters of the Pioneers and she held positions in the Primary and Young Women’s programs in Midvale and Sandy for the LDS church in her early years.

Barbara moved back to Sandy after Sonny’s passing to be closer to her family. She was most happy when she was with her children and grandchildren. Barbara loved to go camping and fishing with her family and she enjoyed cooking for everyone, and planning reunions and get-togethers.

Barbara loved to travel and enjoyed visiting many parts of Europe, and cruising with Sonny to the Caribbean as well. The US also was a great place to visit and she and Sonny enjoyed traveling in their motorhome throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The couple was happiest when they were on the move.

Barbar is preceded in death by husband Sonny, daughter Jamie, and son Jody Russell Ray. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer (Anna) Ray, Sanda Tapp, as well as grandsons Colby, Aaron and Hunter Tapp.

You were the most incredible mother and human being, and the strongest person we have ever known. Wanderlust 4 ever! We love you!

Services will be held on Saturday, April 12th  with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale. Followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East, Sandy, Utah.
