Betty Ann Jones Chidester was born April 6, 1942 in Cedar City, Utah. She was the daughter of Art Jones and Fay Shamo Jones. She passed away quietly on October 27, 2025 at her home in West Jordan, Utah surrounded by her family. Betty married her eternal companion, Roger Chidester, in the St. George Temple and has now joined him.
Betty’s whole life was about service. Whether it was saving up for a Pendleton jacket for her mother, sewing dresses or quilts, making rolls for a Sunday dinner or a full bowl of Peanut M&M’s for visitors, Betty was always serving. Betty and Roger served many Dutch oven meals at girls camps, youth conferences, reunions and other gatherings. She also loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple and in various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as a scribe to Roger when he served as a Stake Patriarch.
Betty inspired many family members to serve missions of their own as she and Roger served three missions. They made friends all around the world as they served in the Tokyo, Japan mission, the Kampala, Uganda mission and the Salt Lake City Welfare Square Cannery mission. They loved the people they worked with and served.
Betty’s legacy was her family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Roger raised 12 children. Now they have 53 grandchildren and over 60 great grandchildren. She will be missed by these children: Kathy (Chuck) Mitchell, Alan (Barbara) Chidester, Kendall (Lorene) Chidester, Gary Chidester, Teresa (Damon) Throop, Liz (Kelly) Orton, Conway (Evelyn) Chidester, Willie (Judy) Chidester, Brian (Karen) Chidester, Jennifer Ray, Carol (Jeremy) Harvey, and Kerry (Emily) Chidester. She will also be missed by her siblings Lucy (John) Hickey, Leslie (Afton) Jones, Nancy Batty and Jane (Chris) Bullock.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roger, her parents, a son Kendall Chidester, granddaughter Chelsea and two brothers, Dwane (survived by Sharon) Jones and Merrill (survived by Sherrie) Jones.
