Betty Warner Wetsel Derricott

It is with tender hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Betty Warner Wetsel Derricott, at the age of 91. She peacefully departed this world on September 16, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Betty was born on August 30, 1934 in Taos, NM, to Virgil and Jessiemay Wetsel. She later met and married the love of her life, John Derricott, in the Salt Lake Temple. Betty was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her eternal sweetheart, John, and their family, were the cornerstone of her life, and she took immense joy in nurturing and supporting each member with unconditional love, care, and kindness.

A master of the home-making arts, Betty had a unique ability to create beauty in her surroundings. Whether it was through her exquisite cooking, her skilled needle, or holiday celebrations like no other, she transformed her home into a haven of love and comfort.

In her later years, Betty discovered a new passion: art. With her brushes and canvases she shared the beauty of her beloved Taos.

Betty’s love for life was equally matched by her deep and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She had a profound testimony of the Savior and His gospel, and her faith was the guiding light in all aspects of her life. She lived with the firm conviction that Christ’s love was the ultimate source of hope, peace, and strength. She shared that testimony through her actions, words, and the way she cared for others. Her life was a reflection of her belief that faith, hope, and love are the greatest gifts we can offer to one another.

Betty lived a life of service, finding satisfaction serving in her community and within her church. She blessed the lives of many as she filled a myriad of callings within her ward and stake . She also made lasting impacts as a temple worker, service missionary and fulltime missionary in the Washington DC Temple.

Betty is survived by her loving family, who will forever cherish her memory. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her unwavering love, her unshakable faith, and the joy she brought to our lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dickie Wetsel, sister Georgie Taylor Sperry, her loving husband John, sons David and Christopher, and grandsons Riley Jenkins and Brandon Niederhauser.

She is survived by her brother Johnny Wetsel (Donna), her sister Billie Hunt (Ivan), her children Rhonda Neiswender (Doug), Kent Derricott (Barbara), Jessie Niederhauser (Wilford), Kathy Jenkins (Doyle), Micheal John Derricott, Suzzanne Ogden (Mitchell), Bettina Guernsey (Robert) and Celeste Henderson (Scott).
