Written by Billy Charles Massey.
“Beloved friends and family I leave my fare well. I am writing this obituary prior to my passing. I have been grateful for my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over my life, God has blessed me greatly. I am blessed to have been privileged to serve in many church callings, 3 missionary assignments, and various leadership and teaching assignments. I am also grateful for the life that Heavenly Father gave me, notwithstanding the disability of blindness which I faced from the age of 17 years. I am also grateful for my wife and my family. Through hard work and the help of my wife I was able to earn two college degrees. After college, I spent 36 years in the rehabilitation field, most of which was working with the blind.
Music was a big part of my life. I played guitar for most of my life and during my lifetime, composed and recorded 12 guitar pieces. I have left a CD for my family. I am grateful for a good wife and two sons, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. My patriarchal blessing tells me that I would have a large posterity. My wife Ann was a tremendous help to me throughout our marriage of 61 years.
Aging and health issues have kept me home for the past few years. Family history has been my church work since retirement. With the amazing talking screen reader technology available for the blind, I have been able to do my genealogy online. When I pass, I am looking forward to a big family reunion with my progenitors. When Douglas McArthur gave his speech to Congress after he retired, he said these final words: “Old soldiers never die, they just fade away”. This is how I feel. I’m just another old soldier ready to fade away but I know I will never be forgotten.”
He is survived by his sons Randall Craig Massey and Daniel Gregg Massey; grandchildren Randall Massey Jr., Jessica Massey, and Nicholas Massey; and great-grandchildren Avery, Arya, Matilda, Eliana, and Felix Massey.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Viewing at 10:00 AM, funeral service at 11:00 AM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale. Followed by graveside dedication in Midvale City Cemetery.
