Carla Jean Martinez

Carla Jean Martinez was born on March 11, 1960. She unexpectedly passed away on January 01, 2022 in the comfort of her own home.

Carla was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Carla graduated from South High high school in 1978. Carla was the type of person who wanted to help any and everyone she could. Which is why she went back to school to further her education. She graduated from dental school and worked in that field for 4 years. She then returned to school and graduated from nursing school and worked as a registered nurse for the last 25 years. She worked at Hill Air Force base which is where she was last working before resigning. She returned to school again, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree. Working hard and bettering herself was always something she worked towards. She was a great role model and hard working from day one.

She was the oldest of 3 children raised by Otis and LaVaughn Mullenax. Carla will forever be remembered by her beloved children LaDawn Mullenax (Jordan Evans) and Kyle Martinez (Andrea Martinez), 2 brothers who love her very very much Lolan (Janet) Mullenax and Larry Mullenax, 3 grandchildren, Kayleigh, Gage and Karter, 2 nieces and 3 nephews, friends she considered family and extended family who were blessed to spend time with her. Carla was preceded in death by her father Otis Mullenax, great grandparents, and grandparents.

Carla was very involved in her children's lives even though she was a single mother working sometimes more than one job and going to school to make sure her kids and family were taken care of. Family was everything to her and she wanted to make sure she was always there. While she has not gone to church or been involved for a very long time Carla was involved in the LDS church for a period of time. She was a leader in Young Women's while her daughter LaDawn attended and was also a troop leader while her son Kyle was in scouts. She also had her temple recommendation at the age of 45.

Carla was such a sweet soul and blessing to be around. Anytime anyone would ever have any medical questions they would always call Carla. She would give you her run down of what she thought and always followed it up with "well this is my recommendation but I'm not a doctor and you should follow up with your doctor". She would give you the shirt off her back or shoes off her feet if you needed. She was a kindhearted person whose love we will dearly miss on this earth but we are finding peace in knowing she is with loved ones watching over us. There is not a day that will go by that we won't miss or think of her until we meet again.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday January 07, 2022 in the Zions building at the State Fairgrounds. (255 north 1000 West Salt Lake City). The memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a GoFund Me has been set up in her honor to help with funeral expenses. If you would like to donate you can do so by going to: https://gofund.me/734620c7

We would like to invite any and ALL who loved Carla to join us to share some fond memories of her as we ALL lost a VERY big and special part of our lives.
