Carol Ann Butterfield

Carol Ann Jenkins Butterfield left this world in the early morning of June 26, 2025.

Carol was born to David Clifton Jenkins and Lucy Ellen Johnson on January 11, 1935 in a log cabin in Vernal, Utah. She was the fourth child in a family of seven children. Her oldest sister Frankie Pearl died before Carol was born. She often said that she had grown up in “the best times possible” with two older brothers Wayne and Morris leading the way and a little brother Jimmie tagging along behind. The adventures that they had were right out of the tales of Huckleberry Finn. Born during the Great Depression era, they were happy having just what they needed. Carol’s father passed away when she was three years old. Her mother later married Vernon Ludell Edwards in 1941. Two more children followed, Vernon LaVon and Margie Louise. During this time they lived in Myton, Utah on a small dairy farm.

After graduating from Uinta High School in Roosevelt, Utah, Carol left for the of the big city of Salt Lake and worked as a secretary. She met Golden Arlynn Butterfield at the dance hall called the Terrace in Salt Lake City. They were married April 3, 1954 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Golden and Carol lived all but a few months of their married life in Herriman, Utah. They were blessed with four children, Kathy, Janalyn, Mark and Wendy.

Golden passed away on May 6, 1986. Carol then moved to Midvale to be closer to Wendy and Janalyn.

Carol worked hard for many years, but her favorite job was working at Southwest Emergency. She loved to help people and was always learning more in the medical field.

She served many callings in the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. She served as a homemaking leader, a primary teacher and stake primary leader. She also served in the Boy Scouts of America as a leader.

Golden and Carol‘s children often commented that they had the best parents anyone could ever have. They taught them how to work hard. They always had everything they needed. Carol‘s rule was family first. Carol was also a world traveler and went to many different countries. She loved to learn about new people and cultures and met many friends along the way.

When Carol‘s health started to decline her children and daughter-in-law Kathy Butterfield and son-in-law Steve Dewey took on the role of caregivers and she was able to stay in her home until her very last breath.

Carol is survived by her youngest sister Louise Nelson and sister-in-law Marnell Butterfield and her children Kathy Hull Jepsen, Janalyn (Ken) Hilton, Mark (Kathy) Butterfield and Wendy (Steve) Dewey.
