Catherine McGahhey

Catherine “CATE” McGahhey passed away on March 7, 2024 in West Jordan, Utah.

Cate was born on June 21, 1950 to parents Floyd W. Harris and Bonnie J. Rose in Seattle, Washington. She was ultimately raised by the man who became her daddy, Marvin ‘Red’ Sutphin and her Mom Bonnie. She spoke much of her love for Dad in her last months.

Cate lived a full and active life, but when asking her what she would like to be remembered for, she said that the best years were her service in the US Army, it was there that Cate really found herself and excelled in everything she did. Cate proudly served for many years, and after returning home from active duty she remained in the Army Reserve, where she was in 1990 when Operation Desert Shield arose and the call went out for help. Cate was quick to answer that call and volunteered her service to that cause. She served in Iraq through the Desert Storm/ Gulf War and grew to love the people that she was there to help.

Wherever Cate found herself in life, she always found a way to make it fun. She was a big personality and gained many lifelong friends along the way. She will be missed by those friends and her family.

Cate is survived by her brothers Alan Harris and Robert (Torrie) Sutphin, and her sister Kelly ( Dennis) Springsteed. Her granddaughters Alahna Miranda and Michael Bria Lovato, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son, Michael Lovato, her parents, and sister Karen Sutphin.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 20th at 12:00 PM, with a viewing from 11:00 – 11:45 AM prior to the funeral. The viewing and funeral will take place at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State, Midvale, Utah 84047.
