My Dearest Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, oh how I love you all! It was time for me to go home and be with grandpa. I honestly don’t know how he’s gone so long without me! I Charlene Greenwall Aldridge was born on January 31, 1939 in Salt Lake City to my wonderful parents, Jesse Greenwall and Evelyn Rushton Greenwall whom I dearly loved. I was the second girl and third child. I had an older sister Beverly Fay Greenwall Cook, my older brother William (Bill) Jay Greenwall and our baby brother Jesse Henry Greenwall who passed away the day after he was born. I grew up in South Salt Lake and graduated from Granite High in 1957. I had a very special friend group, and we called ourselves the Granite Girls Club. We would gather monthly for dinner and good conversation. We did this for over 60 years, these friendships were very important to me and I loved those women. Right out of high school I went to work in the title business. My aunt Lucille was a trailblazer in that industry. My sister, nephew and I worked for Security Title, and I stayed in the title business from 1958-2003 working at various title companies.
In 1964 I met my sweetheart Jesse LeGrand Aldridge. We were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 12, 1965. That set off a rollercoaster of events. To start was the birth of our first child on April 9,1966. We were shocked to learn after I delivered Darren J. Aldridge that Douglas L. Aldridge was arriving too! We were so happy to have our twin boys. In June of 1966 we moved into our forever home on Leland Dr in West Jordan where we lived for 55 years. On February 13, 1969, our first little girl Debra Lee Aldridge joined our family and on April 16, 1971, our second daughter Leslie Ann Aldridge completed our family. I loved being a mom.
I had several hobbies; I enjoyed bowling and was on a league for over 25 years. My lifetime bowling average was 159 and I earned many trophies.
I loved working with my hands, me, my mother, aunt Lucille and sister Beverly would go to Kamas and stay in Aunt Lucille’s cabin every summer. We would spend a week working on our sewing projects and any other craft projects we had underway.
As much as I loved being a mom when I became a grandma and then great grandma my heart was so full. Oh, how I love babies. I loved making beautiful things with my hands for them. I would make clothing, quilts, booties, afghans, knitted hats, gloves, ponchos, Christmas stockings, bridesmaid dresses, scrap books, baby and bridal shower favors, all types of crafts to share with and show my love for my family.
I really enjoyed spending time at my grandchildren and great grandchildren’s different activities watching them develop their many talents.
I loved to create family traditions and worked very hard to make holidays, birthdays, bridal and baby showers and the super bowl memorable.
I loved spending time with all my family including my extended family.
I found joy in serving others. I appreciated my time as Relief Society President, and serving, as the Primary chorister and a teacher. I had the sacred privilege of typing Patriarchal blessings for 15 years.
In December 1985 my dad led the way in returning to heaven, my mom followed in May 1994, my sister Beverly in November 2014 and Bill in December of 2019 and finally, my sweetheart passed in November 2022. It was hard for me to be here without them all.
I will miss you all terribly. But I am so happy to be home. Be good to each other. I am with you always. Know that I love you. I am so grateful for the gospel and the knowledge that I have that we will all be together.
I am leaving behind my beautiful children: Darren (Tycia) Aldridge, Douglas L. (Lorri) Aldridge, Debra Lee (Scott) Hardy, and Leslie Larsen. You all brought such joy to my life. I love you and I am so proud of you. I have 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren that I love with all my heart.
Thank you to all the kind people who helped me at Riverway Memory Care. Especially Kirsten, Meg, Whitney, and Dani with Canyons Hospice.
Until we meet again.
All my love,
Mom
