Cherie Lee Buchanan

Cherie Lee Buchanan passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025 at the age of 72.

Cherie was born on August 3, 1953 in Tooele, Utah to Robert Junior and LaMoyne Bunting. She was raised in Midvale, Utah, the oldest of four daughters, and took great pride in her role as a big sister.

From a young age, Cherie showed remarkable creativity and talent. She learned to play the piano and continued to fill her home with music throughout her life. She discovered her love for sewing—a skill that became a lifelong passion. Cherie lovingly made clothes for herself and her sisters. She even sewed her own wedding dress. Later, she continued this hobby by making clothing for her children, along with countless blankets and beautifully crocheted receiving blankets for family and friends.

As a young girl, she enjoyed traveling and camping with her parents and sisters. That love for the outdoors continued as she raised her own family, making cherished memories during annual camping trips to Fish Lake and many other memorable vacations together.

A proud graduate of Hillcrest High School, Cherie went on to attend the Salt Lake College of Medical and Dental Assistants, where she earned her medical assisting certificate. She found joy in caring for others, especially during her internship in a pediatrician’s office, where her gentle, nurturing nature touched many lives.

On March 14, 1975 she married Rex Buchanan in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised four children in Draper, Utah.

She was a beloved wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother who poured her heart into her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her loved ones, especially in the kitchen, where she spent countless hours teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook and bake. She will always be remembered for her delicious homemade rolls and the love she shared through every meal.

Cherie was a devoted and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully served in many callings and found joy in each one. Her love for the Savior was evident in every aspect of her life—through her kindness, compassion, and quiet acts of service.

Cherie’s legacy of love, creativity, and faith will continue to bless all who knew her.

She is survived by her children: Brian (Charise), Brent (Wendy), Amy (Ben Taylor), Stacy (Colby Walker), and 12 grandchildren; her siblings: Paula (Russell Morley), Shanna (Steve Slatter), and Denise (Perry Maw); her in-laws: Mignon (Ray Jones), Dan Buchanan (Jean), Lyle Buchanan (Debra), Warren Buchanan (Linda).

She is preceded in death by her husband Rex, her parents Robert and LaMoyne Bunting, sister-in-law Debbi Buchanan, and brother-in-law Dennis Barney.
