Clayton S Green

Clayton was the youngest of 13 children born to Henrietta Tangwall Green and Alonzo Green. Born in Butlerville, Utah (now Cottonwood Heights).

An accident during birth left Clayton’s life in doubt, he was not expected to live through the evening. Beating the odds, he lived for 93 years. Leading an incredible and exemplary life.

After a series of jobs as a youngster followed by military service during the Korean War era, Clayton found his place as a proud lifelong Union worker for Kennecott Copper, spending his career in the silver refinery, fortunate to enjoy 40 years of retirement as well.

Clayton never forgot his humble roots and a life of poverty growing up a depression era child.

He was generous with his time and finances. Clayton had a village he built around him, with many that lovingly called him Grandpa. He shared innumerable birthdays, weddings and holidays with family and an impressive, sizable group of adopted “grandchildren”.

Clayton helped uplift and better the lives of many of those around him. He never built walls, instead he created a longer table.

He volunteered his time and garage for many field trips for the local elementary school to view his antique cars, to build floats for the local July parades which he also drove many of his antique cars in as well.

Clayton and his wife of 60 years, Sharon, spent over 40 years volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America.

Clayton served as a volunteer fire fighter for Sandy, Utah and he held many LDS Church callings in his life as well. He was fortunate to travel extensively in his life.

Clayton’s kindness, heart and generosity truly made this earth a better place.

Clayton was preceded in death by his loving wife Sharon Lee James, son Gary, infant daughter Cheryl, son in law Mark Griffin.

He is survived by daughter Stephanie (Stephen), daughter Rochelle, son Kyle (Debbie), daughter in law Tracy.
