Colleen Manwaring Meyer, age 90, of Midvale, Utah, passed away on the evening of Monday June 8, 2026, in her home with family and friends by her side.
Colleen was faithful, artistic, and dearly loved. She was born to Auretta and Levi Earl Manwaring on February 19th, 1936, in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California. She was the first of three daughters and part of a joyful childhood family. She grew up in Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Weber High school in 1954. She then went to BYU from 1955 - 1957 where she studied Secretarial Training. She was on the Glee Squad and loved those years of learning and socializing. She had four children, working and caring for them as a single mother many of her years raising kids. They describe her as brave, smart, and steadfast in her faith. She lived in different locations around Salt Lake before moving to Midvale, where she lived for 51 years. Colleen worked as a secretary before working at OC Tanner where she retired.
Colleen loved the beauty of life; she watched sunsets, counted birds, and rejoiced in art, especially music (never missing Music and the Spoken Word each Sunday). She added beauty to the world with her painting, embroidery, and writing. She wrote many poems and children's stories, including Zelmo, a story her son in law, David Dean, helped to publish.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Colleen spent her life trying to be like Jesus. She taught in Primary, Sunday school, Young Women’s, and the Relief Society organizations. She was in the Relief Society presidency and was the Primary President. After she retired, she dedicated her time to serving in the Jordan River Temple where she served for 12 years and only stopped when the temple closed for renovations. She prayed, found solace in scriptures, and loved those around her the best she could every day of her life.
A very special thanks to her wonderful hospice team Celi, Jody, and Pearson for their great care, time and service to make her last days comfortable.
Preceding her in death are her parents and sister, Mary Lee Burns. Colleen is survived by her sister: Lois Kapp, her children: Julie Ann Baker (Richard), David Micheal Lunt (Janet), Marianne Peart (Charles Ryan), and Melissa Dean (Dave), her 10 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
