Dana Alex Michaelsen

Alex was born on a Wednesday night, September 28, 1977 to Patzy and Dean Michaelsen. He spent the first few years of his life in Magna, Utah with his mother and father until he was 3 years old when his father passed away. At that time, his mom and he moved to Bountiful, Utah where they lived until 1987 when Patzy met and married Jack Vanderberg. They moved to downtown Salt Lake City where Alex attended Lincoln Elementary. He was a very likable young man and had several friends. He enjoyed playing baseball, snowboarding, and watching football (“Go Raiders”). In 1990, the family moved to Sandy, Utah where his two sisters, Sarah and Rachael were born. Alex adored both of his sisters and was always very supportive of both girls throughout his life.

Alex had many unknown talents including his love for art and his ability to create beauty from paper and pen. Alex was a gifted entrepreneur and strived to be “number 1” in all aspects of life including owning his own business. He was quiet, somewhat reserved and preferred to spend time at home. He welcomed anyone that was up for a good movie/treat night. Alex was a generous person and anyone that knew him, knows that all you had to do was reach out and he would do his best to help in anyway that he could without expecting anything in return. In 2019, he accepted Christ as his savior and attended church services regularly with his mom at Calvary Chapel.

During the last several years, Alex struggled with various mental health symptoms and substance use disorders. He fought this battle as best he could until October 11, 2022. He is survived by his mother Patzy, father Jack, sister Sarah (Broc) East, sister Rachael and his nieces Addi and Autumn East. He has several uncles, aunts, and cousins too.
