Dana Michael Coates

Dana Michael Coates, 50, passed away in his home on September 4, 2026, in Sandy, Utah. He was born on February 24, 1976, in Daytona Beach, Florida, and grew up in Casselberry and Orlando, Florida.

Dana graduated from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, where his love of baseball began to take shape. He went on to play collegiate baseball at Polk Community College, carrying his passion for the game throughout his life. Sports were a way for Dana to connect with people, teach, encourage, and make memories. He especially loved coaching youth baseball and cheering on his beloved Florida Gators in college football.

Dana built a successful career in sales, serving as Vice President of Sales and Director of Channel Sales for multiple companies. He set many sales records and accumulated a stockpile of awards during his career in the telecommunication services industry. But while Dana was accomplished professionally, those who knew him best will remember him for something far more meaningful: the way he made people feel.

Dana had a remarkable ability to uplift others and make everyone around him feel important. He had an incredible sense of humor and was often the life of any gathering. His personality could fill a room, and his laughter and stories brought people together. Whether surrounded by longtime friends, family, coworkers, or people he had just met, Dana had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued.

Above all else, Dana was devoted to his family. He cherished his wife, Jeanette, and his children, Kylie and Kaden. Some of his greatest joys came from simply spending time with his kids and supporting their interests. He was the kind of father who showed up, cheered proudly, encouraged often, and took genuine pride in the people his children were becoming.

Dana was an endowed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his faith was an important part of his life.

Dana is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette; his children, Kylie and Kaden; his mother, Faye Ellett (Jeff); his brothers, Derek (Krista) and Chris (Marissa) Coates; his in-laws Bill and Linda Perry; his brothers-in-law, Bill (Kacey), Tyler (Melissa), Trent (Jess), Brian (Lauren), Mike (Jordan) Perry; sister-in-law Lindsay Perry (Matt Larsen); and 22 nieces and nephews; He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Coates.

Dana leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind laughter, stories, friendships, lessons, and countless people who are better because they had the privilege of knowing him. His ability to make people laugh, lift them up, and feel like they mattered was a gift that will continue through everyone whose life he touched.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
