Daniel Vidal Lucero

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Daniel “BIG D” Vidal Lucero, age 61, who passed away unexpectedly at home on September 30, 2025, after years of health issues.

Born on April 18, 1964, in Murray, Utah, to Gloria (Saldivar) and Adelido Lucero, he was raised in the heart of old town Midvale, where he spent most of his life. He loved his town dearly, and it was a big part of who he was. Known for his most inappropriate, yet hilarious sense of humor—with jokes that would make you laugh even when you knew you shouldn’t—his love of cooking, his loyalty to the Raiders, love for fishing and golf, and an incredible generosity that touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Even in times when he didn’t have much, he always found a way to help someone in need.

Danny cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted father to his two sons, Michael and Steven, and a loving grandfather to Ollie and Stevie, eagerly anticipating the arrival of his grandson in February. He welcomed his daughter-in-law, Kelsie, into the family and treated her like one of his own, always checking in on everyone he loved. After the tragic passing of his son Steven in 2021, he took on the responsibility of caring for and raising his grandson Stevie; this gave him purpose and brought joy to his life.

He shared his passions and life lessons with his children. He loved talking golf with Michael, giving tips and advice on clubs, and showed his sons the importance of working hard, being on time, and providing for family. He loved to have fun and celebrate life, ensuring his children experienced both joy and responsibility.

An accomplished executive chef for many years, with a special talent for BBQ (his neighbors say they sure will miss the smell of smoke in the air when he was cooking), he loved feeding those around him and making sure others were happy. Beyond the kitchen, he enjoyed laughing, joking, sharing stories with friends and family, playing golf, and spending time fishing.

His older brother, Layne, always held a special place in his heart. As big brothers do, Layne was always there to help him, especially in these last few years when he needed it most.

He is survived by his son Michael Lucero (Kelsie); his grandchildren Stevie, Ollie, and one more boy on the way; Older Brother Layne; nieces KoriAnne and Maria; nephew Greg; brother Frank; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gloria and Adelido Lucero; his son, Steven Lucero; uncle Marcel “Chug” Saldivar; uncle Michael McCoy; dear friend Mark Quintana; and several other beloved aunts and uncles.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share memories.

In addition to his viewing, we will also have a celebration of Life on Saturday, October 18th, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Rusty Nail Saloon, formerly the Three Alarm Saloon, 7273 S. State St, in Midvale, where Danny had Big D’s Kitchen and shared his food and love with everyone who walked in the door.

Danny’s laughter, love, generosity, and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. We take comfort knowing he is fishing in heaven with Steven and holding his grandson, awaiting the day they can all be together again.
