Darrell James Drew

Darrell James Drew passed away peacefully October 17th, 2022, at the age of 82. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Darrell was born November 14, 1939, in Murray, UT to Vivian and Wilma Drew. He had an older brother, Melvin, and 2 older sisters, Beverly and Louise. Darrell grew up in Sandy, UT graduating from Jordan High School. During his senior year he joined the Army National Guard where he served for seven years. Darrell married Frances Ellen Slotte on April 8, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple, and had 4 boys. After her death, he married Norma Jenkins on June 9, 1972, in the Salt Lake Temple, and welcomed her 3 children to the family. Together they had three more kids and worked hard to raise all of them as one family. He loved his family and looked forward to any opportunity to support his kids and grandkids in their various endeavors.

Darrell was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz, the Salt Lake Bees, and most importantly BYU. He loved fishing, golfing, and coaching his boys’ baseball teams. Darrell was an incredibly hard worker, working at Kennecott Copper, Jordan School District, and umpiring baseball in his spare time. He worked multiple jobs and many long hours to make sure his family was taken care of. Darrell was also a bit of a jokester with a quick wit and always looking for someone to tease.

Membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was important to Darrell. He faithfully fulfilled many callings, served in the temple, and served multiple service missions with his wife and grandson. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

As Darrell aged, his later years were plagued with dementia. As this disease progressed, he lost his memory and ability to perform many daily tasks but he never lost his happy and positive demeanor.

Darrell was preceded in death by his wives, parents, siblings, and grandson, Luke.

He is survived by his children, Scott Snarr (Michelle), Janilyn (Shawn), Kent (Monica), Scott Drew (Elizabeth), Dan (Lisa), Jay (Tami), Ryan, Melia (Bryce), Melanie (David), and Richard (Lynsey); 33 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Darrell’s hospice team, Lisa, Kyle, Heather, Mike, and all those who helped us navigate dementia and caring for our dad. Their love and kindness helped make the difficult times easier.

Services will be Saturday morning, October 29th. There will be a viewing from 9:00 to 10:40, with the funeral to follow at 11:00. Services will be at the River 8th Ward chapel located at 1239 W.
