David Brent Smith, a devoted husband, loving father, brother, and dear friend, unexpectedly passed away on the morning of December 25, 2025.
Born on June 20, 1979, in Grand Junction, Colorado, Davey, as he was affectionately known, dedicated his life to his faith and family. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fresno, California. He earned his Associate's degree in Accounting from Utah Valley University. He later graduated with a Master’s in Accounting from Southern Utah University in 2024.
On March 8, 2014, he married the love of his life, Ashley Barnhill, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, welcoming two wonderful sons: David Curtis Smith (7) and Ryker James Smith (2). Davey treasured every moment with his boys, who will carry their father’s spirit with them always along with their memories of family sports time.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Ashley, their children, and his five siblings: Debbie (John) Welburn, Rob (Annai) Smith, Curt (Mandi) Smith, Nicole (BJ) Hoaldridge, and Steve (Lindsey) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Mary Smith. Davey shared a particularly close bond with his father, who passed away in March, and he aspired to emulate his father’s example of love and commitment.
Davey will be remembered as a man who faced numerous challenges with unwavering strength and resilience. He refused to be defined by his disability, always greeting life with a warm smile and an unbreakable spirit. His legacy of perseverance and determination will forever inspire those who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 30, at the Maple Park 2nd Ward Chapel, 352 South 2550 East, Spanish Fork, Utah. Friends and family are invited to visit from 9:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Spanish Fork Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.goffmortuary.com.
