David Samuel Oliver

David Samuel Oliver was born on March 28, 1946 to Joseph Samuel and Erma A. Oliver. Our family lost our greatest hero, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend on March 13, 2023. He left his mortal body behind after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.

David married his high school sweetheart, Nedra Smith, and spent 58 glorious years with her by his side. It was rare to see one without the other. He was the oldest of 10 children and he loved each of his siblings dearly. He had 4 beautiful children, Chris (Keven), Michelle, Mindy (Jared), and Josh (Emilee), 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. His family was everything to him and he spoke of them with such pride.

Dave attended BYU for a few years where he pursued a degree in Civil Engineering. Along the way he found something he enjoyed more, and took to naturally. He felt at home in his CF truck! His laugh was infectious and he always knew how to brighten your day with his unique sense of humor. He could fix anything, and on any given day before his illness, you could find him tinkering away in his shop, riding around on his tractor, feeding his horses, or working in his yard. He took great pride in everything he owned and made sure his treasures always looked nice.

David enjoyed many activities including horseback riding with Josh, camping with Nedra and the family, hunting with his brothers, in-laws, and sons, and serving the Lord. He served in many church callings, but he cherished the time he served as Bishop of the Draper 12th Ward. He loved serving others and was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.

There was a grand reunion in heaven with his sweet father whom he had not seen in 55 years, his mother, his in-laws, Dale and Nona Smith, 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, and his beloved dog Ellie. He will be greatly missed, but we will remember him for his larger than life personality, the exemplary life he lived, and the many lessons he taught.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped with David’s care over the past 5 years. The love and support of family and friends will forever be remembered and appreciated. The care provided by Rocky Mountain Hospice was invaluable and given with such love and sensitivity. A very special thank you goes out to Lynn Desmond for the many hours spent reading, and ministering, to David.
