Deloris Bodily Hanson

Deloris Bodily Hanson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully April 10, 2024 while her eternal companion held her hand. She declined rapidly after having several strokes. She was 77 years old.

Deloris Bodily Hanson was born April 24, 1946 in Vernal, Utah to Zelpha May Allen Bodily and Walton Edwin Bodily. She was the youngest of 12 children. She grew up on a farm in Maeser, Utah. She graduated from Snow College and Utah State University with a degree in elementary education.

She married David Hanson June 14, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their early married life was spent in Logan while David finished his schooling. When David accepted a teaching position at Union Middle School, they bought a home in Midvale, Utah, where they raised all 7 of their children. She was fortunate to be able to stay at home to care for her children. She treasured motherhood and always said that all she ever wanted to be was a mother. She especially loved children, and enjoyed visits from her kids, grandkids, and great grandchild. She had a huge heart full of love for others, and everyone who knew her was blessed by her sweet love and humble example.

She was always selfless and loved to serve God. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She spent many years serving in that organization in many different capacities. Her favorite was the many years she spent in the Primary working with children. She also served in the Young Women's as president, as counselor and president in Relief Society, and in numerous other capacities. She was faithful and diligent in her service and others have shared how her caring was sincere and life-changing.

She was talented in several types of handcrafting. She made many quilts, and dozens of cross-stitch pieces for her family and loved ones. She took up crocheting later in life and made a beautiful afghan. She always had a vegetable garden and particularly loved growing fresh tomatoes and peas. She was an avid reader and loved to do puzzles. But her greatest joy in life was serving her family by babysitting her grandchildren. Her legacy of love continues through the generations who are blessed by her example.

She is survived by her husband David Hanson, her siblings Thoral (Donna) Bodily, Luella (Forrest) Evans, Delila Goodrich, sister-in-law Ruth Bodily. Also by her son-in-law Michael (Erica) Deschner, and her children DaShelle (Scott) Graham, Traci (Greg) Perkins, Sharae (Steven) Lamoreaux, Travis (Genie) Hanson, Kendra Hanson, and Alyssa (Jason) Echols, plus 23 grandchildren and 1 “great” grandson. Lately her favorite thing to say was: I'm not just a grandma anymore now I'm a “great” grandma.

Preceded in death by her parents Zelpha May Allen Bodily and Walton Edwin Bodily, step-mom Olive Merkley Bodily, siblings Lucile (Vernon) Anderson, Lorenzo Bodily, Melvin (Margaret) Bodily, Anna (Charles) Morrison, Gordon (Jackie) Bodily, Harold Bodily, Loren Bodily, Floyd (Fern) Bodily, brother–in-law Ward Goodrich, and by her daughter Trudy Deschner and grandson Norrison Deschner.

Her funeral service will be held at the Midvale 5th Ward Chapel, 8171 S Jackson St., Midvale, Utah on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11 am. A viewing will be held before the service starting at 10 am. Interment at Midvale City Cemetery.
