Delphine Walker Wright

Delphine, 79, passed away on October 26, 2023 in Cottonwood Heights, UT. She was born on September 29, 1944 in Idaho Falls, ID to Carle and Romaine Walker.

Her parents moved to California for better employment in 1951. Delphine stayed in Iona to finish the school year living with her 2nd family, the Elliott’s. She rejoined the Walker family and finished school in the San Fernando Valley in California. She spent every summer in Iona with the Elliotts.

She was the older child whose job it was to keep watchful eyes over her younger siblings whom she loved dearly: Hal, Janet, Johnny and Karen.

On a blind date she met her love, Chris Wright. They married on June 22, 1963, in Van Nuys, California. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 22, 1973. They celebrated 60 years together. They had 4 children, Christian David Jr, Cheree DeAnn, Chad Allen, and Cathleen Ann. Chris and Delphine moved from California to Iona, Idaho in 1967, then moved to Salt Lake City in 1979 where they still reside, yet she always called Iona home.

Delphine worked for Dan’s Foods for 30 years. Her favorite color was Yellow like the ray of sunshine she was. She loved flowers. She enjoyed cross stitching, loved reading cook books and magazines, cooking, collector of many things, too many to mention and shopping. She adored her fur babies Harry and Sally and had tea time with them every day having Cheetos, pretzels, or chips. The thing she loved the most was spending time with loved ones. Her favorites knew her affectionately as Phoph or Phophie.

Delphine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the young women, relief society, but her favorite calling was always primary, where she spent hours teaching and loving the children of the ward.

She recently celebrated her 79th birthday with a big family party. Her special guest was a life-size cardboard Elvis Presley. Her niece, Madi Smith, strummed her ukulele, and sang an Elvis song to her. It was a great time, celebrating the Matriarch of the Walker Family.

Her children and loved ones surrounded her during her cancer journey. Janet spent countless hours helping and caring for Delphine.

Delphine is survived by her husband Chris, her children Chris Jr., Cheree (Troy), Chad (Julie), Cathy, and the pride and joys of her life, her grandchildren Sean and Courtnie, along with her sisters Janet, Karen (Donnie), her brother Johnny (Geri), sister-in-law Walda (Robert), brother-in-law Steve (Miriam), sister-in-law Vivian Kirkwood, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends whom she loved like family.

She is preceded in death by both parents, her brother Hal, niece Amy, nephew Clint, brother-in-law Rick, her aunt and uncle Barbara and John Elliot, Gordon and Viola Wright, Bob and Shirley Kirkwood, Lee Kirkwood, and JoAnne and Bob Millikan.
