Denis C. Miner

Denis Clark Miner of Sandy, Utah departed this earthly existence on March 6, 2024, at the age of 70 at his home. This loving and wonderful man, who called just about everyone he met “Cowboy,” had struggled with metastatic thyroid cancer for 7 years.

Denis met his eternal companion, Shauna Harris, at BYU in August of 1979. They dated for 6 years before they married. Denis often travelled for work and so they had quite a while to develop a deep friendship over that span of time. They FINALLY tied the knot on May 11, 1985. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 14th, 1987.

Denis and Shauna were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Lindsay Ann, Ashley Nicole, and Krystal Lauren. This was such a happy time in their lives! Denis was asked numerous times what he was going to do because he had no sons to take hunting. Denis would say that “it didn’t matter” because he would just take the girls instead. Little did he know that he had girls that would yell “Run Bambi, run,” Instead of helping him spot out a deer or elk. Denis would have a mad look on his face for about 5 seconds, but then it would turn into a huge smile and a jovial laugh. These beautiful girls were given opportunities to hike, fish, swim, camp, kayak, sing songs on the guitar, and the list could go on and on. Mom was never that fun and adventurous, so these women really struck the lottery, and they knew it!

Denis was a man of many talents. He was an outdoor enthusiast, he loved to ride horses and motorcycles and fly airplanes. He wanted every young man to know the benefits of being an Eagle Scout. He felt so strongly that what he had learned from it helped him achieve many kinds of success in life. He owned a successful construction business and mentored many men in the art of building. Many of the young men in our ward, countless friends, nephews, and cousins were given the opportunity to learn this trade. There were many years that his daughters wanted to go to work with him, they learned the value of hard work. Eventually sweeping up dust and counting nails lost its luster so at that point they opted for friends and pedicures instead!

Denis’ illness was very difficult for him as he slowly was unable to have the energy to do the things he loved. He would try to find joy in the small things that didn’t require a lot of physical energy, like visiting with friends on his front porch, saying hello to old and new friends at church, and going to get a hamburger at Culvers with George Prickett. Two days before his passing, Denis made a serious request of his wife. He wanted to go to peruse the aisles of all places, SAVERS! And yes, that’s where they went!

Denis is survived by his wife, Shauna, and his two daughters Lindsay Ann (Parker Cluff), Ashley Nicole (Conner Trost) and three grandchildren, Kennedy, Drake, and Crew. He also has had the opportunity to meet the miracle of the family, affectionally called “Baby Bean”, who will be born any day now. We feel like this granddaughter has had the opportunity to meet her Papa in her heavenly home before coming to earth. Denis is also survived by his sister Jan (Craig Richards), his sister Julie (Steve Shannon), and his brother Alan (Cindy Miner.)

A huge debt of gratitude is given to Inspiration Hospice, especially his nurse Niki. She tirelessly troubleshooted whatever Denis was going through and was always kind and gentle. Niki is considered a part of the Miner family now.
