Dennis Lee Walker

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Lee passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 21, 2024. Born on January 14, 1945 to George J and Grace N Walker in Herriman, Utah, Lee grew up on the family farm understanding the value of hard work and responsibility. His early schooling in a two room school house fostered a zest for learning and fondness for athletics that would shape his life. Lee would go on to be a distinguished athlete and scholar at Bingham High School where he lettered in football and baseball and was their Math Sterling Scholar. He would continue his studies at the University of Utah and become a lifelong supporter and fan.

Lee started his career working from the ground up ascending from warehouseman to the Vice President of Information Systems for Utah Wholesale Grocery/American-Strevell. After19 years, Lee did not rest on his laurels and worked as the Chief Information Officer, General Manager, VP, and President of many other firms. His ambition led him to earn his insurance license and start in 2000 a very successful independent insurance agency, Advanced Insurance Services, later renamed GMI Insurance Agency of Salt Lake. His success allowed him to retire early in 2008 and spend more time with family.

Lee loved to spend his spare time outdoors working on his house, yard, and cabin. He would lovingly say that he was a lousy hunter, golfer, skier, and fisherman, but would keep trying anyway. He was not a lousy sports fan and always enjoyed a good Utes, Jazz, or NFL game.

Lee was a devoted husband and father. He loved to give unsolicited service and strived to always be fair and kind. He had a big smile, a warm heart, and a firm handshake for everyone he met. Over the years, Lee learned to understand the importance of the gospel of Jesus Christ that he first learned in his youth. After being married to Konda K Baumann for 17 years, they decided to be sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple on their wedding anniversary on June 22, 2019.

Lee is preceded in death by his parents George and Grace and his brother James (Betty). He is survived by his wife Konda, former spouses Susan Savage and Shirley Harton, brother Niel (Cecilia), sons David (Sophia) and Ryan, daughters Amanda and Lilliana, and grandchildren Zachary, Ari and Maya, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing in Lee’s honor will be held Friday, March 1st between 6 – 8 PM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, UT and on Saturday, March 2nd between 11:00 to 11:50 AM preceding his noon memorial service at the Hillcrest Ward Chapel at 7500 S. 700 E. Lee’s interment will be held following at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, UT.

Many thanks to Atlas Homecare & Hospice with special thanks to Lee’s RN Ashley, his CNA Sara, and the on call nurses Rachel and Savannah for making Lee’s final days more comfortable and fulfilling for him and his family.
