It is with very heavy hearts that our dear mother, daughter, sister, and friend passed away unexpectedly in her sleep due to heart failure.
Mom was born 2nd daughter to MSG John Smith and Hildegard Adler, in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. She came to the U.S. as a young child and being an army brat, lived in a few different states until the family settled in Utah. She was raised in West Jordan, and attended Bingham HS and graduated from Valley HS.
She was strong willed, tough minded, quick witted, outspoken, and had a passion for traveling and reading about the reigns of royal kings and queens. She loved going to Cedar City for the Shakespearean plays every year. Animals meant a lot to her, especially her dog Bailey, who was her sweet companion. She listened to 80's Rock with her favorite bands being Aerosmith and Poison.
She started work at the age of 19 at the Utah State Tax Commission and after 33 years she retired. Her life was filled with both trials and triumphs. Our mom worked hard being a single parent and her strength and love made us who we are. She provided us with not only the essentials but also the support and encouragement we needed and taught us the value of hard work and sacrifice.
She was preceded in death by both her parents. She is survived by her daughters Jamie Hansen (Jeff) and Erin Carpenter (Cody); grandchildren Gage, Gunner, Gatlin, and Ava; sisters Monica Cutchin (Jim) and Kay Martinez (Dan); nieces Makayla and Alex; her dog Bailey; and many more family and friends.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family.
We are grateful for every moment we had with her. We will carry her spirit with us as we continue our journeys, inspired by her strength, smile, and enduring love.
Rest in peace Mom, you are no longer suffering. We love you!
