Donna "Kay" Gibson Flowers, 83, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024 in St. George, Utah. Our Father in Heaven was calling her home... and she took her last gentle breath surrounded by her adoring family.
Kay was born on February 7, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clyde E and Wanda Mae Gibson. She married Thomas Earl "Bud" Flowers on December 20, 1958 in Elko, Nevada and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 19,1975. Bud and Kay have four loving children: Tom (Kathy), Jeff (Deb), Aaron and Staci (Kevin) and were blessed with nine grandchildren: Jeffery, TJ (Jenae), Chris (Chelsea), Hayden, Mitch, Rachel, Tate, Ryan and Jordan and two great grandsons: Tommy and Beckham. Family was absolutely everything to Kay. She spoke constantly about the pure joy that family brought her and she loved each family member deeply and unconditionally. Her hugs and kisses and I love you's... and the request to "ring once so I know that you are home safe"... were a constant with Mom.
Kay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had an unwavering testimony of the gospel. Her love for the Lord was evident in her lifelong example of selfless service and compassion. She epitomized Christ-like love. She enjoyed many callings in the church and served faithfully. She particularly enjoyed the special calling to work at the Utah State Prison in the Women's Unit and true to her nature she loved and wrapped her arms around all of the women there, recognizing each of them as daughters of our Heavenly Father. She had a deep love for God and for our Country and could be found wearing a flag pin on her shirt daily. Bud and Kay housed two sweet Navajo students, Toni and Brent, as well as any family members who needed a place to stay. She loved the scouting program, and served in various callings with the younger scouts. She was incredibly proud of her three son's Eagle Scout accomplishments. After moving to St. George, she served in the Baptistry in the temple and cherished that assignment for years. Her most treasured calling in life was that of motherhood and homemaker. She lived for, and was overjoyed, at the arrival of each of her grandchildren.
Kay had a smile that would light up a room, and the love and compassion she radiated was tangible. We all benefited from that love and generosity and her genuine concern for others. The Flowers home was welcoming to anyone who needed her help. The kitchen table always had an extra seat available and she couldn't sit still until everyone was fed and made comfortable. Kay added sweet and endearing details to everything she did. She was very artistic and her home was decorated beautifully. She had a love for collecting clocks. When the time change came around, it took hours to adjust each of them. Her favorite one still chimes in the front entryway of their Ivins home. Her favorite pastime was spending time in the yard. She particularly loved being around the horses and working on their farms in Draper and Medford. In the fall, she loved to deliver pumpkins from their garden to all of their neighbors. She could drive a tractor and lawn mower like nobody's business and every flower bed and garden row were meticulous. Because of Bud's career in the Air Force, and as an international airline pilot, they had the opportunity to live in Puerto Rico for a few years. They have wonderful memories of traveling with their family to many beautiful places throughout the world. Kay brought so much love and joy to this earth. You always knew that you would find a bright and soft place being in her presence. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services for Kay will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at Anderson & Goff Mortuary located at 11859 S 700 East in Draper, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 10:00-11:45am. Interment will be held at Elysian Gardens Cemetery in Salt Lake.
The family would like to thank Legacy Village of St. George and Renew Home Health and Hospice for the tender and loving care they offered to Kay and to our family. We know that Mom is at peace now and free from pain and the challenges of our mortal bodies. We are sure that she is scurrying around without restrictions, serving and caring for everyone around her. Kay's memory and legacy will live on as we strive each day to be a little more like Grandma Kay. We love you Mom! We know that you are watching over each one of us. We know you are home safe. Just don't forget to "ring once" every now and then to let us know you are there. Until we meet again. XOXO
