Dorothy (Karalunos) Lambert of Sandy, UT, died suddenly at her home on July 3, 2024, after recently celebrating her 90th birthday with family and friends.
She was a longtime resident of Sandy but was a New Englander at heart. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on May 10,1934, she was raised in Methuen, MA. She graduated from Searles High School in Methuen in 1952. She then attended the prestigious Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, and later received an associate degree from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA.
Dorothy was the only child of John and Isabel (Byrne) Karalunos. She had no siblings but was very close with her cousin Gail Preston who lived nearby.
In 1961, she married Paul M Lambert whom she met at a CYO dance. They were married in Lawrence on June 3, 1961. She walked down the church aisle with a broken leg due to a skiing accident. They were married for 53 years.
After the wedding, she moved to Somers, Connecticut following her husband’s plastic engineering job. In her lifetime she would live in Connecticut, Ohio, Washington State, Michigan and Utah where she finally settled for 42 years. When her children were young, she was a stay-at-home mother, but she helped Paul build his plastics company. Later she would work for the School of Business, as an executive assistant at both Ferris State College in Big Rapids, MI and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT until her retirement.
In later years, Dorothy and Paul bought a 36-foot RV that she nicknamed the “bus” and spent the next 12 years traveling the United States, mostly in the southwest, following her husband’s rifle matches. She enjoyed their time in the RV and especially their trip to Alaska.
Dorothy was also a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi, a national sorority which had a chapter wherever she moved. She credited this organization for meeting some of her lifelong friends around the country. Dorothy served as president of the Salt Lake City chapter and always looked forward to their many events and traditions.
Dorothy was very proud of her family and would often boast about her grandchildren to anyone who would listen. She especially loved to watch her grandchildren’s lacrosse games at Herriman High School and later at Westminster College. She was a lover of the performing arts and was a longtime season ticket-holder for the Utah Symphony, as well as a fan of the Boston Pops. She liked to garden and to grow flowers in her yard and loved her dogs, Clover, Boomer and Tucker, whom she shared with her son Paul.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Paul M Lambert who died in 2014. She is survived by her sons Paul E. Lambert of Sandy, UT and John E. Lambert of Herriman, UT. She is also survived by her daughter Leslie (Lambert) Lynch of Bellingham, MA.
Dorothy leaves behind daughter-in-law Kimberly (Alger) Lambert, married to John, and her grandchildren: Tanner (Rhea), Alison (Jackson McNeil), McKenna and Kelsie Lambert of Herriman, UT and Daniel and David Lynch of Bellingham, MA.
Viewing hours will be held at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, UT on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9757 South 1700 East, Sandy, UT, at 11:00 AM with a viewing at the church starting at 10:00 AM.
