Douglas Elin Mackay, 80, of Sandy City, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2025, with his loving wife, Joy Mackay by his side. Born to Nile and Emma Mackay on May 22, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Doug led a full and meaningful life, devoted to his family and community.
Doug had a long and successful career in the grocery industry, as a store manager at Safeway and later transitioning to a long-time non-food broker for grocery stores. His dedication and hard work left a lasting impact on the industry.
As a loving father and husband, Doug’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He was an avid enthusiast of restoring, racing, and showing cars, a passion he proudly shared with his loved ones. He was also proud to serve as the president of the Corvette Club of Utah, where he forged lasting friendships and contributed to the car community he loved. Doug was also actively involved in coaching youth baseball, leading his team to a second-place finish in the state Little League championship.
He is survived by his wife, Joy (VanTassell) Mackay; children Chris (Jana) Mackay, Tyson (Sonya) Mackay; grandchildren McKenzy Fulton (Andrew Fulton), Danielle Horrocks (Logan), Alexandra Sepede (Ryan), and Nickolas Mackay (Elli), Haiden Mitchell, and Kailey Mitchell; great grandchildren Holden and Wally Horrocks and Lillian Fulton; Sisters, Jerri (Boyd) Bowman and Elizabeth (Bill) Crosby. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by his parents Nile and Emma.
Doug’s love, generosity, and kind spirit will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Serenity Hospice Care for their love, dedication, and compassion in providing comfort to Doug and the family during his final days.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. A short viewing will take place at Goff Mortuary, 8090 State St., Midvale, Utah, 84047, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Valley View Cemetery, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120, at 11:00 AM.
