Ernest Whitney Oldham Jr.

We found this on Whit’s computer, he wrote this 15 years ago after having his heart attack.
Leave it to our Dad (Whit) to write his own Obituary. All we needed to do was fill in the date.

Ernest Whitney Oldham Jr.
“Whit”
1942-2023

I died on Friday, March, 31, 2023.

What a great life I had. I was born on May 19, 1942 in SLC. Utah. My parents were Dr. Ernest Whitney Oldham and R.N Ruth McBride Oldham. I was raised in Coalville, Utah where my dad was the town Doctor and my mother his nurse.

My dad died when I was only six years old and my mother when I was fourteen. I grew up as the “Junk Yard Dog” of Coalville. I ended up with many fantastic dads. They included Bunny Downs, Ralph Judd, Frank and Veron Moore, Chet Blonquist, Kay Crittendon, Frank Bullock and many others. They all had a great influence on my life.

They were some of the great people that lived in Coalville. They all had a great influence on my life. I had three great sisters, Meresa Judd (Bud), Mary Taylor and Susie Woolstenhulme (Don) that also had a great influence on my life.

I graduated from North Summit High School in Coalville in 1960. I attended Utah State University, where I met my wonderful wife June Ann Budge. We married in 1962. I transferred to Weber State University and graduated with a teaching degree in science. After a short teaching carrier at North Summit, I entered University of Utah graduate school. I became an assistant teacher for a couple of professors in the field of Ecology. Job opportunities where scarce and pay was sparse so I went back into construction. I joined the carpenters union and later obtained a contractors license for residential and small commercial projects. I built many custom homes and was a dealer for Interstate Homes for many years. Later I transferred my contractor’s license to Flare Construction and became a superintendent and safety director for them. I retired from Flare in 2006. I went to work part-time at NorthStar with my three sons for a few years until I retired.

I had numerous hobbies during my life and enjoyed them with great friends and family.

I want to say “Goodbye to my family and great friends” that I love so much. Remember to keep on exploring, enjoy your life. (Whit)

Preceded in death by my sister Susie Woolstenhulme (Don), my Son Robert Budge Oldham, my brother in law Edwin LaVar (Bud), my brother in law Robert C. Budge. Survived by my wife June Ann, Sons Mark (Stella), and Kenny (Amanda). Daughter Jan Richins (Brett). Also, many grandkids and great grandkids.

The Oldham family would like to invite family and friends to a Celebration of Life for Whit at the Hoytsville Church, Tuesday April 4th, time 6-8 pm. Address: Church of Latter Day Saints, 1095 South Hoytsville Rd 84017.
