Evelyn "Evie" Kay Sharp Stanley

Our dear wife, mother, sister, friend, teller of jokes and relater of stories, Evelyn (Evie) Kay Sharp Stanley passed away in her home on November 15, 2025.

Evelyn was born on September 2, 1955 to Ray George and Donnabel Spratling Sharp. She grew up in Midvale, Utah and met and married the love of her life James (Robert) Stanley, during her first year at Brigham Young University. They married on September 12, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She planned to finish college, then kids came quickly-she had four under four—and school plans were placed on hold. Her life focused on her service to her family, church and community. She led roadshows at church, ran a 4-H club so her kids would get the opportunity including running the summer camp with her friend Varel Wilson. This was just one of their many adventures together. She worked at Cub Scout day camp with all of her kids. She helped her sons get their Eagle Scouts. She sewed dresses for dances. She led the Kearns High Colorguard to support her daughter Emily. She held many callings at church, but being a ward missionary with her sweetheart was a highlight. She made friends and touched the lives of ward members and the full-time missionaries. In recent years they served together as the Branch President and in the Relief Society Presidency at a nearby Legacy care facility. They again made and rekindled long-lasting friendships. Until just a few months ago she spearheaded weekly activities for a group of primary boys, sometimes including their whole families.

While her children were very young, she experienced an attack of Multiple Sclerosis. Although she was blessed to have only one attack and then went into remission, it left her frequently tired and with low energy.

After the kids were married and grandchildren started to come, she decided to go back to her beloved BYU. She loved learning and earned BA degrees in English and Linguistics with minors in Western American Studies, Music Composition, and Editing. She made many friends while at BYU and savored the time there. She included her brother Vaughn in her music composition classes, writing duets they performed. She and Vaughn had a special relationship which grew closer when she took care of him before his passing.

Her lifelong friends and sisters, MaryJo and Anita, understood her on a level that only a “Pudiss” can. She loved her family and it was special to her to have brother Gaylin near by.

She loved reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. The time she spent with old high school friends planning their 50th reunion brought her joy and rekindled lifelong friendships.

She loved sewing. Through this talent, she made possible special memories and opportunities for her family, friends and neighbors by creating quilts, dresses, hats, costumes, shirts, pants, ties, toys, or whatever else might bless someone, sometimes on very short notice. She loved procuring, displaying and organizing her dishes, cake pans, glass figurines, salt and pepper shakers, books and other extensive collections. Family meals, birthdays and holidays were made special under her thoughtful care. She met people everywhere she went and made quick friends telling her latest jokes or sharing a favorite story. She loved people and relished the love she received in return.

Survived by husband Robert; 4 children, James (Stacey), Emily (Jon) Sorensen, Jaron (Christina), Esther (Eric) Gundersen; 16 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; siblings MaryJo (Brad) Heaton, Anita (Quinn) Hatch, Nathan, Jonathan and sister-in-law (Joelle).

Preceded by siblings Vaughn, Gaylin, Doug, Kelly; Grandchildren Wayde, Joseph.
