Fredrick William Smith

Fredrick William Smith, cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, in Orem, Utah, at the age of 81.

Fred was born on January 7, 1944, in Murray, Utah, to Leslie Frank Smith and Hattie Elnora Cranney. As the eldest of four children, he grew up with a strong sense of responsibility. After graduating from Jordan High School, Fred pursued higher education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he studied Microbiology. Before completing his degree, he served a mission in Korea for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, an experience that instilled in him a lasting appreciation and love for Korean culture and people.

In 1970, Fred married Lonette Grover, and together they were blessed with four children: Shauna, Sheryl, Christie, and Brian. Later, he married Karen Reither, with whom he welcomed his youngest child, Amy. In 2006, Fred married Jane Hawkes where they lived in Cedar City together until 2016. In 2018, Fred met and married Khristine Aquino in the Philippines, who lovingly cared for him until his passing. Fred found joy in his roles as a father, grandfather to 15 grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 7 great-grandchildren.

Professionally, Fred was known for his dedication and expertise in the medical field, where he earned the respect of colleagues for both his skill and work ethic. Beyond his career, he enjoyed camping, skiing, hiking, gardening, and music. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially when his children needed assistance.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fred served in various capacities with genuine kindness. His ability to make others feel valued will be deeply missed.

Fred is survived by his wife Khristine; his children Shauna Jensen, Sheryl Misrasi, Christie Knecht, Brian Smith, and Amy Richardson; his grandchildren Hailey Jensen, David Jensen, Alex Jensen, Shelby Ashby, Michael Misrasi, Davis Misrasi, Emilee Knecht, Amanda Knecht, Chelsea Smith, Cameron Smith, Colby Richardson, Landon Richardson, Noah Richardson, Logan Richardson, and Riylee Richardson; his brothers Frank Smith and King Smith; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Hattie, and his sister Debbie.
