Frutoso Alberto Padilla, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, in Midvale, Utah, in the comforting embrace of his family, following a lengthy illness. Born on September 18, 1935, in Llano, New Mexico, Frutoso lived a long and fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and work.
Frutoso began his career at an early age as a sheep herder alongside his grandfather Pablo Romero. This formative experience instilled in him a strong work ethic that carried through his life. He later worked as an underground miner in Grants, New Mexico; Colorado; and at Kennecott Copper Mine in Utah until he retired. His hard-working nature and commitment to providing for his loved ones were hallmarks of his character.
A devout Catholic throughout his life, Frutoso found strength and solace in his faith. He was a man who cherished the outdoors and spent much of his free time camping, fishing, and hunting deer and elk—activities that brought him joy and connected him to nature.
Frutoso was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lila G. Padilla; his parents, Jose Padilla and Selina Romero Padilla; sons Marvin and Albert; grandson Jessie Lucero; granddaughter Marcela Padilla, brother Ernesto; and sister Teresa. Despite these losses, he remained a pillar of strength for those around him.
He is survived by his children: Helena Lucero (Wilfred), Madlyn Sanchez (George), Robert Padilla and Joann Padilla. Sisters: Olivia P. Sanchez and Diana P. Vidaurre. Brothers: Margarito Padilla (Martha) and Jerry Padilla. Uncles: Miguel Romero (Doris) and Carpio Romero (Juanita). Twenty grandchildren, Twenty-four great-grandchildren, Ten great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Frutoso will be remembered as a hardworking and supportive individual whose love for family was unwavering. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Lila and all those dear to him who have gone before, forever in our hearts and memories.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to daughter Madlyn, his caregiver and husband George for their exceptional care, compassion, and unwavering support. The family also extends sincere gratitude to family members who assisted with care during their father-grandfather's final days. We also thank Rebecca, Sandy, and Yvonne of CNS Hospice and staff for the kind caring of our father and support of the family.
