Gary Noall Hyde, born June 7, 1940, in Ogden, UT, beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father on May 30, 2026.
Gary’s Uncle Wendell Noall, who delivered him at birth, named him after his friend, the actor Gary Cooper. During his early years, Gary lived in one of the apartments his Grandpa Matthew Noall built on 181 4th Avenue in Salt Lake City. He was actively involved in Scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 12.
Gary's mother had a gift for hospitality and warmly welcomed his friends into their home, making it a gathering place filled with laughter, friendship, and love. Through a playful poem Gary once recited, his mother earned the affectionate nickname "Mabel," a name by which she became known to family and friends for the rest of her life.
Gary graduated from East High School, then attended a Salt Lake Area Vocational School, earning a degree in mechanical drafting. He served in the Army National Guard and enjoyed a successful career with Sperry in Utah, Motorola in Mesa, Arizona, and The Boeing Company in Washington. Upon retirement, he moved with his wife Sharon to Gold Canyon, Arizona.
While living in Washington, Gary met his beloved sweetheart, Sharon Judy Ninke. They were married on June 23, 1968, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on November 23, 1976. They were married for 52 years.
He cherished and adored his wife Sharon with all his heart. He beamed with joy in her presence and delighted in sharing memories of their life together. He cared for her tenderly with eternal love and devotion.
Gary was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sought throughout his life to follow the Savior’s example of love, kindness, and service.
Gary was proud of his son, Mike, and loved listening to him play the piano with his extraordinary talent. Gary always served others from his heart with joy and enthusiasm while bringing “Acts of Kindness” to all with whom he came in contact with. He enjoyed baking his “Grandpa Hyde’s Best Bread Known to Man” bread and sharing it with family, friends, and neighbors. His baking days were eagerly anticipated and became a treasured tradition.
Gary had a strong desire to live life well and he did. He was always positive and shared his cherished memories through stories and writings that his family will treasure for generations. He welcomed visitors by sounding his famous conch shell upon their arrival and departure, making everyone feel celebrated, valued, and loved.
For more than thirty years, Gary faithfully participated in the Monday night “Family Home Evening” group, of which he was an integral leader. He enjoyed delivering Pizza Hut pizzas to those in need, driving his yellow Volkswagen Beetle (Bug), and wearing his red clown nose to bring people joy. He strived to create positiveness with all he encountered, and it beamed from within him. He enjoyed nature, hiking, sitting on his back porch enjoying the sunrise and sunsets, while listening to Mike’s music, and spending time with his family, his Mariola Court friends, and enjoying life to the fullest.
Gary was preceded in death by his sweet loving soulmate Sharon (Ninke) Hyde, mother Verna (Noall) Hyde, father George (Bill) Hyde, wife Merle (Spurrier) Hyde, and brother Wendell Robert (Bob) Hyde. He is survived by brothers Randy (Carolyn) Hyde and Scott (Tawni) Hyde; son Mike (Sabine) Hyde; step-daughter Deborah (Roe) Dippold, plus four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Sincere gratitude for the special care, support, dedication, and love that Jeff Pico and Tami Walk provided to Gary, along with his niece, Debbie Hyde, for her steadfast devotion and love.
A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held in Sandy, Utah, with additional services in Washington. Service details will be announced at a later time.
