Glen Lewis Irish completed his earthly mission on October 2, 2025 in Midvale, Utah, at the age of 98.
Glen was born July 8, 1927 at the Cottonwood Maternity Hospital in Murray, Utah to LeRoy Wooding Irish and Viola Paget Irish. He spent his early years in Salt Lake City, graduating from Granite High School in 1945. He was inducted into the Army in October that year, and after completing basic training he spent nine months in Seoul, Korea. He was later called as an LDS missionary to the Southern States Mission.
After returning from his mission, he met Effie Walker, and they were married on November 22, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. They built a house in Midvale, where they lived for 66 years and raised three amazing children. Glen worked as a machinist for many years, until he retired in 1992. He also served in several different callings in the LDS church, primarily as a financial clerk at both ward and stake levels.
Glen enjoyed bowling, working in the yard, recording the Midvale weather for a local news station, and camping and hiking with his family every summer. In the winter he enjoyed knitting, which he learned from his mother. He made sweaters, baby blankets, and many dishrags for family and friends.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joy Thornley, and his son Roger Glen Irish. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Effie, by his two daughters, Rebecca Ipson (Mark), and Sarah Featherstone (Jayson), his sweet daughter-in-law Kim Irish, 14 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Ray Thornley and LeRoy Walker, and sister-in-law Pearl Russo (Tony).
The family wishes to thank the staff of Spring Gardens Senior Living and Canyons Hospice for helping Glen as well as supporting him as he took care of his wife.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Midvale Stake Center at 97 West 7500 South. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 am.
