Glenna Moss Hayes

I was born on January 25, 1925 in my grandmother's home on a farm two miles west of Malad City, Idaho. My parents were Norval William Moss and Isabel Davis Moss. The first six years of my life were spent in Malad except for a short time in Ogden.

The first sixteen years of my life I would experience four different environments. I lived in the home my father grew up in on a farm in Woodruff, ten miles south of Malad and went to the one room school he had attended. I experienced the small town environment in Downey, Idaho and moved to Malad for a four year stay. Next, we moved to a mining town, Ely, Nevada where we stayed two years. The next move was to Salt Lake City, a big city environment. I always had friends wherever we lived but I welcomed the excitement of new places and new friends.

I graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City in 1943 and attended the University of Utah. I met my husband, Delbert Kenneth Hayes, at South High School. We married on April 18, 1945 and enjoyed 71 years of marriage. He died in 2005. After his discharge from the army, we lived in Seattle, WA and Spokane, WA before moving back to Salt Lake City in 1949. Our son, Delbert Kenneth Hayes Jr. was born in 1962.

I worked in banking for seven years and then moved on to the travel industry. I was an Independent Contractor for 25 years. This helped make a dream of seeing as much of the world as possible come true - visited 70 countries and took many cruises. My next interest has been writing personal histories of my ancestors.

I was born into a loving, caring family and got to live a wonderful life. I was a child during the Great Depression. All of my needs were taken care of and the problems my parents dealt with didn't affect me. All the young men in our families that went into the service during World War II came home. I have enjoyed close relationships with the Moss and Davis families and they have enriched my life. All lives experience ups and downs and mine was no different but the downs all fell into ordinary.

Other than family, friends and travel some of my other interests have been gardening, camping, hiking and playing bridge. I have climbed many mountains. Mother Nature has nurtured me physically, mentally and spiritually. Two things I wish I had done - hiked the Inca trail and climbed as far as I could on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

I love children, flowers, books, music, dogs and chocolate. Our son, Del, our daughter-in-law, Hui, and grandson, Ben, have brought me happiness and joy.

It is a beautiful world I say good bye to - - - -
