Howard Elroy Davis

Our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on June 6, 2024. He fought hard with multiple heath issues over the past several years and is finally at peace. He was born on November 1, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Howard W. and Pauline Beffort Davis.

Elroy graduated from Provo High School in 1960. After graduating he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1961 to 1963 in the Great Lakes Mission. He married Reta C. Lawton on August 9, 1963 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children Kevin (Stephanie) Davis, Cheryl (Trent) Eyre, Shanna (Brent, deceased) Wardle, and Suzanne (Kit) Morrison.

After graduating from Utah Technical College with an Electrical Engineering Degree Elroy worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company which later became US West and finally Qwest Communications. Retired in 1995 from Qwest, then worked for XO Communications from 1998 to 2011.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings including Ward Financial Clerk, Ward Executive Secretary, Counselor in High Priest Quorum, and Stake Financial Clerk.

In his earlier years Elroy loved spending time with his loved ones at the family cabin in Sundance. He enjoyed sitting and listening to the stream nearby and feeling the peace there. Creating so many happy memories that we will cherish forever.

Survived by his wife Reta; four children; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother Kent and sister Paula (David) Medlyn. Preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Brent Wardle.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 13^th at 11:00 AM at Sandy City Cemetery, 700 East 9000 South. Friends are invited to greet his family during the viewings on Wednesday, June 12^th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Thursday, June 13^th prior to the graveside from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale.
