Jackie Ann Wakefield, 57, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026 of Acute Respiratory Distress from chronic illness, surrounded by her loving family at Banner Ironwood Hospital ICU in Queen Creek, Arizona.
Born in Renton, Washington, Jackie was the second oldest of six children to Leon Dennis and Victoria Ann Carlson. From a young age, she learned the importance of serving the Lord and dreamed of building a family of her own. She lived that dream with a heart full of love, always finding joy in strengthening and nurturing those around her. Jackie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose caring spirit touched everyone she met.
Her deepest passion was her faith, testimony, and missionary work in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jackie served missions at the Church History Museum in downtown Salt Lake City and Baptistry at the Jordan River Temple. In her later years, she loved hosting missionaries for dinners and gatherings at her home. She held many callings of service and especially cherished teaching children in Primary.
On July 8, 2006, Jackie married and was later sealed to the love of her life Steven Wakefield. Together they spent the last 20 years raising their children while creating cherished memories during baptisms, marriages, graduations, vacations, and life events with their children and grandchildren.
Jackie had a remarkable gift for making holidays in and around her home magical with her abundant decorations, joy, and love. She volunteered tirelessly — serving neighbors, friends, schools, and anyone in need. A passionate advocate for education, she was a constant presence in her children’s classrooms and proudly served as a PTA president, working to improve the schools her family attended.
With a legendary green thumb, Jackie brought life back to even the most wilted plants from the clearance section of the store. Taught by her parents, she loved gardening, growing flowers, fruits, and vegetables then canning and preserving the bounty of her labors. A true foodie, she delighted in cooking and fearlessly and consistently enjoyed new kitchen gadgets and trying various ethnic recipes.
Her mother shared her own love of sewing and crocheting with Jackie teaching her skills that became talents she used throughout her life. She was always working on different projects, from making custom Halloween costumes for her children, herself, and her husband; to sewing and crocheting baby blankets for friends and her beloved grandbabies. It was rare to find her watching TV at home without seeing her working away on her latest crocheting project.
She found joy and peace at the ocean, along the beach, collecting seashells, walking in the sand, and later in life watching for whales from shore. Jackie also adored music — playing piano and flute in high school, but most enjoyed listening to religious hymns and Disney songs. She had many fond memories of going to Disneyland with family along with experiencing the joy of the holidays there.
Jackie will forever live in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. Every time they snuggle in one of her homemade cozy blankets, smell the salty scent of the ocean, or see anything Disney related, it will always bring her memory to mind. Her light, laughter, and love will continue to shine through all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends to be forever remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Dennis and Victoria Ann Carlson, and her brother, Neil Leon Carlson. Survived by her husband, Steven Wakefield; siblings: Jodi Victoria Campbell, Dennis L (Saunja) Carlson, Stacey Mary Etta (James) Stanley, and Steven Dale (Emily) Carlson; children: Joshua Scott (Kim) McNabb, Julie Ann (Jeff) Andrews, Jordan Henry (Hannah) McNabb, and Jessica VictoriaAnn (Adam) Martin; step-daughters: Alyson (Michael) Wrigley and Hannah Wakefield; along with her 16 beloved grandchildren: Arielle, Isabelle, Lilliana, Briella, Wendell - McNabb; Christopher, Arya, Aaron, Cheyenne, Nathan, Nolan - Andrews; Eloise, Margaret - McNabb; Jaylynn, Jaydyn, Landon - Martin.
