Jakob Martin Dietz, 93, of Payson, Utah, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Sandy, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 10, 1932, in Brønderslev, Denmark, to Christian and Anna Dietz. Jakob’s early years were shaped by both love and loss, as he lost his mother to tuberculosis at the age of five. In 1951, he emigrated to the United States with his family, beginning a new chapter filled with opportunity and service.
Soon after arriving in America, Jakob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, proudly serving his adopted country for more than 20 years. During his service, he became a U.S. citizen—an achievement he held dear. On April 21, 1956, he married Meredith Anne Anderson, with whom he shared six children; they later divorced. He later married Lila Dietz, who preceded him in death, and later in life, he married his beloved wife, Deborah Fay Dietz.
Following his military career, Jakob continued his dedication to service as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. Known for his quiet strength, steady work ethic, and kind heart, Jakob touched the lives of many through his generosity and integrity.
Jakob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout his adult life.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Fay Dietz; sons Jens (Cherie), John (Julie), Eric (Sheri), and David (Pam); daughters Lennie Kae (Andrew) Plaut and Anne Marie(Jessica); brother Orson (Linda); sister Susie Dietz; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lila Dietz, grandson Jens Dietz, as well as his parents and siblings.
