Jeanine Greenwood Kochevar, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2026. She was born July 22, 1936, in Sandy, Utah, to Orren and Jennie Greenwood.
Jeanine grew up in Sandy, where she shared a close and happy childhood with her parents and siblings, who were also her dearest friends. As a young girl, she helped her parents on the family’s chicken and mink farm, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family unity. She attended Jordan High School, where she played the cello in the orchestra. She loved her years as a “Beetdigger” and made many lifelong friendships and memories.
After graduating from high school, Jeanine attended Brigham Young University, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Paul Kochevar. They were married on March 16, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a devoted partnership that would span seventy years. Throughout her life, Paul was her first priority. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, loyalty, and covenant commitment. They stood by one another through every joy and trial and, in their later years, cared for each other with tenderness, patience, and unwavering love.
Jeanine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, raising six children and creating a home filled with warmth, order, and love. She was a gifted homemaker who sewed her children’s clothing, prepared home-cooked meals and desserts, and made holidays special. Her home was a place of welcome, where family and friends gathered often and where everyone felt they belonged.
She loved music and especially enjoyed being a member of the ward choir. She was often found singing or humming as she went about her day. She was also an avid reader from a young age, a love she carried throughout her life and passed on to her children.
Jeanine had a remarkable gift for making others feel valued. Whether in conversation or quiet interaction, she made each person feel important and heard. She was kind in her words, quick to see the good in others, and never inclined toward criticism. She made friends easily and was a friend to everyone, including her children and grandchildren.
She lived a quiet life close to home, but it was full—full of family, friendships, and meaningful service. Her faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ was steady and deeply rooted, and she showed her love for the Savior through the way she lived and the way she loved others. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings and found joy in ministering to those around her.
Jeanine valued her family above all else. She is survived by her husband, Paul Kochevar, and her six children: Denise Wade (Mark), Diane Del Toro, Dawn Bernardo (Tony), Carolyn DeMill (Jed), Michael Kochevar (Kristen), and Scott Kochevar (Kristie). Her posterity includes 26 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
She is also survived by her siblings, Afton Greenwood, Susan Stott, Gerald (Jeannie) Greenwood, and Stephen (Doris) Greenwood; her brother-in-law, Bruce Kochevar (Karalee); and her sisters-in-law, Joann Handly and JoAnn Robertson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orren and Jennie Greenwood; her parents-in-law, Joseph William and Elva Kochevar; her sisters, Jessie Lloyd and Shirley Jones; her brothers-in-law, David Lloyd, Gary Jones, Larry Stott, Lewis Kochevar, Don Kochevar, and Bruce Hanson; her grandson, Joshua Kochevar; her great-grandsons, Chad and Andrew Kukahiko, and Sawyer and Rowan Foote; and her granddaughter-in-law, Jackie Del Toro.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 12:00 noon, at the Riverton Park Ward chapel, 12998 South 1300 West, Riverton, Utah. Viewings will be held on Friday, April 10, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah, and from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the Riverton Park Ward chapel.
