Jennifer Dewaal Hughes

Our Warrior…

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister passed away peacefully on September 14th, surrounded by her loved ones after a hard-fought battle against leukemia.

Jenn was the life of the party who attracted the best people into her life. To know her was to love her. Jenn’s most important calling in life was to be a mother to her boys whom she relished and adored. To watch them grow from young boys into the men they are filled her heart with a pride unmatched.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 24 years, Jaimeson Michael Hughes, her high school sweetheart, her two beautiful boys, whom she loved big much, Jaiden Michael Hughes, and Jackson Bodie Hughes, her father Gregory Jon DeWaal and Haewon DeWaal, her mother Annette Lacome Whitaker and Richard Whitaker, her sister whom she loved so dearly Natalie Stevenson and Jared Stevenson.

Jenn’s life was filled with friends and family whom she loved. She found strength and comfort from every visit, phone call, text, and social media post. If you were fortunate enough to hear Jenn laugh, you couldn’t keep yourself from joining in her joy.

Jenn was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018. She was scared and devastated but met every challenge and adversity with a positive attitude, strength in the power of prayer, faith, and a smile on her face. She inspired so many cancer patients and people in her life to do the same. Until her final day, Jenn fought.

Jenn came to love and appreciate all of the people who provided care for her. Many of them became some of her closest friends. Thank you to every assistant, nurse, doctor, and coordinator who came into contact with Jenn. Our family can never repay the love and care you gave to Jenn. Your selfless service to her will never be forgotten.

We have been blessed by so many through this experience that Jenn wanted to pay it back and pay it forward. She started her “Witches Night Out” party and fundraiser to have a fun night with friends and give donations to others fighting their own battle against cancer. Another fundraiser being started in Jenn’s name is “Hugs from Hughes,” to provide blankets for cancer patients in treatment. Please consider making a donation to “Hugs from Hughes” through GoFund Me at the following link:
