Jerry Elwood Fairbourn

Jerry Elwood Fairbourn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away Friday, May 16th in Draper, Utah with many of his loved ones by his side. He was born on June 7th, 1936 to Leslie Delroy and Harriett Rosetta Fairbourn. He had two older brothers and five older sisters. Ross joined the family a year later. Jerry and Ross were very close.

Jerry graduated from Jordan High School in 1954 and in 1956 was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northwestern States, which included Alaska. While attending the U of U, he was called up for the Berlin Crisis. He married Irma Rae Vawdrey in the Manti Temple on August 24, 1962. They were blessed with four children. Jerry moved his family to Crescent where they lived for 26 years. In 2000 they moved to Draper.

Jerry worked as a temple worker at both the Jordan River and Draper Temples.

Being a patient, loving, and wise teacher was a God-given gift to Jerry. He taught fifth and sixth grades for over thirty years and touched many lives. Farming was also a love of Jerry’s.

He is survived by his spouse Rae; and children Janet (Todd), Jeff (Camille), Diane (Evan), Rick (Sharon), along with twenty grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 23rd from 9:30 to 10:45 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the LDS Church, 1750 Aintree Ave., Draper. Interment to follow at Crescent Cemetery, 11105 S. State St., Sandy.
