Jerry Steele

August 4, 1941 — October 24, 2023

Jerry Steele

Jerry D. Steele, our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away October 24th, 2023 due to complications from pneumonia. He was born August 4th, 1941 in Nephi, Utah to  H. Dellwin and Dorthea Steele. He married his beautiful wife on March 10th, 1962 in Nephi, Utah.

He was raised in a loving home alongside his 6 siblings, who he cherished. They had a wonderful childhood together with many crazy and wild adventures. Jerry was an all star athlete who loved baseball, track and boxing. He was a friend to all who met him.

Jerry enlisted in the Army National Guard December 14th, 1959. His military occupation was Track Vehicle Mechanic. He honorably discharged November 30th, 1967.

Jerry met the love of his life, Gayle Garret. He knew she was his special gal and decided he would never let her go. They married March 10th, 1962 in Nephi, Utah. They were later sealed together for time and all eternity on May 20, 1964 in the Manti Temple. Jerry adored his wife and you could always find them together, side by side and  hand in hand. She was his world. He loved taking care of her and would never let anything get in the way of that (except when it came to hunting). Their love grew by two when they had their beautiful children, Rick and Lori. They were the light of their lives. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and they did everything together. He loved to do anything outdoors. Camping, hunting, trapping, fishing, mining, rock hunting, hiking… you name it! He found peace and beauty being in nature and loved sharing that with his family.

One of his biggest passions in life, next to family, was his love for hunting. He became one with mother nature as the anticipation and excitement of the hunt filled him with pure joy. It was a love he shared with many friends and family. If he wasn’t hunting with you, he surely had an elaborate story he would happily share with you.

Jerry was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he diligently served many callings including serving as a counselor in the bishopric. His love for Christ shone through in all he did as he was one of the most Christ-like people around. He was the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He found joy in making others happy. He had a way of making everyone feel special, even those he just met. He was a firm believer in priesthood blessings and would offer one to anyone in need. He was also famous for his incredibly beautiful and long family prayers.

Although he spent the last 20 years battling two different types of cancers and other illnesses that held him back, he never let that get him down. He would often be found with a smile on his face and a witty joke to lift everyone's spirits, even when it should have been the other way around. His positive attitude and drive to live life to the fullest helped him enjoy many more years with his cherished wife and beloved family. He knew family was what this life was about and it was so incredibly important to him. He will be greatly missed by all. We hope his legacy can continue through all those who met him as we follow his example and make the world a brighter place, just as he did.

Survived by his wonderful wife, Gayle Steele, son, Rick (Anna) Steele, daughter, Lori (Todd) Fordham, his five grandchildren, Preston Steele, Brittania (Ryan) Walker, Ashley (Jordan) Aitken, Amber and Raidyn, his 9 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Preceded in death by his parents Dellwin and Dorthea Steele, granddaughter Felicia Fordham, brother Denny Steele, sisters Carol Downey and Donna Robertson and nephew Robert (Robby) Steele.
