Jimmy Lee Carter

Jimmy Lee Carter passed away September 26th, 2026. Jim was born in Nephi, UT to Lyndon Leroy Carter and Virginia (Gyppe) May Scottorn on January 14th, 1934. He attended school in Nephi, and graduated in 1952 from Juab High School. Jim joined the Navy in October of 1952. While in the Navy Jim was stationed in Kansas, Morocco, and Malta. He was honorably discharged in October of 1960. Jim married Patricia Whitaker on New Years Eve, 1952, they later divorced. He then married Myda Carter on August 8th, 1966, they were married for 57 years until Myda’s passing in June 2023.

After being released from the Navy, he settled in the San Francisco area where he worked as the Manager at Thrifty Drug. Jim eventually returned to Nephi working in the family business, the Tiara Cafe, along-side his mother and brother Jack for many years. He then worked as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service until he retired in 1986. He took much pride in his job as a letter carrier making sure everyone on his route got their mail in a timely manner.

Jim loved supporting the Juab High School sports teams, he was a very dedicated fan, you could always find him sitting in the stands next to his sister Ann cheering for the Wasps and heckling the officials. Jim was a member of the Nephi chapter of the American Legion. He enjoyed representing the Legion in the Ute Stampede parade each year.

Jim is survived by his 5 children, Cynthia Rapozo of Lihue, Hawaii, Amy (Joe) Asistin of Chino Valley, Arizona, Susan (George) Kitt of Norwich, Connecticut, Bryan (Tammy) Carter of Richfield, Utah, Carla (Wes) Bills of Nephi, Utah, his sister Ann Coombs of Nephi, Utah, 16 grandkids, 42 great-grandkids, 10 great-great-grandkids and many nephews and nieces.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Myda, parents Lindy and Gyppe, siblings Gene Carter, Max Carter, Patsy Iverson, Jack Carter, and Tim Carter, son-in-law Joseph Thomas Kennedy, son-in-law Leonard Rapozo, and great-grandson Ashton Sousa. The family would like to extend a thank you to Doctor Rosenbeck and the staff at Central Valley Medical Center, the doctors and nurses at Mount Timpanogos Hospital and the care team at Red Cliffs Assisted Living.

A graveside service will be held at the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery on October 3rd at 11 am.
