Joan Rands

Joan Barbara Silber Rands, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 15, 2023. She is the eldest of three daughters of John and Barbara Silber born in Ogden, Utah on October 31, 1943. She grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. where she met her husband, Steve Rands. They were married in the Manti Utah temple in December of 1968. They spent almost 55 years together.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served others in many different callings. She always found someone to minister to and was known to invite others over to share a meal. She was fond of quilting, sewing, cross-stitching, painting, candy-making, baking and cooking, and was never afraid to try a new recipe. She loved family history and temple work. She was dedicated to searching for her ancestors. Her father’s Jewish ancestry who lived in Hungary previous to the family emigrating to the United States in 1910 was especially challenging to her. That interest led to service in family history centers over a 20- year period, helping others learn how to research while she continued her own efforts. Her love of the temple led to extensive service in the Denver Colorado temple, as well as the Mt. Timpanogos Utah temple which only ended because of her decline in health. She served until she couldn’t.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Leslie Rands, her children Scott Rands, Debbie and Greg Davenport, Steve and Beth Rands, and Amanda Rands; her two sisters Clare and Glenn Brush, and Laurel and Tom Gilbert; and her grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 28th from 10:00 - 11:45 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel located at 127 East 3200 North, Lehi, Utah 84043.

Interment will immediately follow the Celebration of Life at the Lehi City Cemetery at 1100 N 400 E, Lehi, Utah 84043.

The family would like to thank the caring staff and nurses of Welcome Home Assisted Living of American Fork, A Plus Healthcare at Home hospice service, and Stonehenge of American Fork for the superb care they gave mom in the last months of her life. She was truly grateful for your kind service, as are we.
