Gone Racing - A Life in the Fast Lane
JoAnn "Jo" Patience, 76, of Midvale, Utah, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, surrounded by loving family and friends. Born on January 13, 1949, in Murray, Utah, to Vincent R. and Dorothy M. Patience, Jo lived a life defined by courage, passion, and adventurous spirit.
Jo was known for her immense generosity and her deep love for all animals. Her true passion, however, was in the world of motorsports. A true trailblazer, she was one of the few women of her time to race both a Funny-Car, "Pink Chablis" and her favorite, a Top-Fuel Dragster, "Jo Ann Reynolds" competing from 1978 to 1986. Her dedication and adventurous spirit made her a respected figure on the track.
After retiring from racing, Jo channeled her love for the road into a new adventure. In 2001, she opened Jo Ann's Gear Jammer, a popular truck stop located near the old Bonneville Raceway. It quickly became a beloved hub for truckers and locals alike, known for its warm atmosphere and good food. She proudly operated the business until its closure in 2013, following the sale of the land.
Jo is survived by her partner, Rick Mounteer, and her brothers, Raymond and Robert Patience. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Dorothy, her daughter Jammi and her brother, Johnny.
The family extends special thanks to Joey Leung for her care and support.
In lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Shriners Hospital.
