John D Stemmons

John D Stemmons passed away July 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home in South Jordan, Utah. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to John Daniel Stemmons and Rowena Leonora Stringham on April 21, 1941.

He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Mission, which included Southern California, Arizona, and Las Vegas. Before his mission, he attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. After his mission, he attended Brigham Young University and then obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Utah.

He met the love of his life, Diane Yates Stemmons, at an M Men & Gleaners young adult conference in 1967 and married her on January 6, 1968, in the St. George LDS Temple.

He and his family lived in Orem, Utah for several years. They then moved to Granger, Utah and then to South Jordan, where the family was raised in the shadow of the Jordan River Temple, which he loved to look out the window and see.

He worked at the State Health Department and then at the LDS Family History Library, which was his dream job. At that job, he worked on the personal genealogy for various important dignitaries that were presented to them by the First Presidency. He loved family history and genealogy. He kept an in-depth journal, and he often shared entries from his journal with his family.

He loved his grandkids so much, always thinking up different ways to connect with them: marbles, water activities in the backyard, writing personalized adventure stories, and funny made-up words and nicknames. His grandkids will always think of Grandpa Stemmons when they hear the rattle of Tic Tacs, as he loved to give them away.

He enjoyed the family week at Snowbird every year at the end of May.

His favorite thing in the world was to have all his children and grandchildren gathered with him at the house.

Jack is survived by siblings William (Bill) Stemmons (Cathy), Duane Stemmons, and Renae Summers (Ray); children Jason (Alyce), Eric (Wendi), John (Jen), Amber (Chris Siddoway), Suzanne (Brandon Higbee), Becky (Ken Short), and Alan (Emily); as well as twenty-seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear step-father, Glendon Humpherys; a sister-in-law, Marlyn, wife of Duane Stemmons; and his younger sister, Dalene Burch.

He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life. He loved the gospel and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He had many church callings and put great effort into everything. He was a great husband and father. He loved everyone he met and was well loved by all.

We would like to thank Active Hospice for the wonderful care. Every person who came was so helpful and kind. We would also like to thank First Choice Home Health, especially Trustin Anderson.
